I am having a very strange thought here as so many things on this do not add up !!

Without seeing the 1871 census with Henry James on it I am not totally convinced that he was there! - There is one but we have proved that this is not him.

I too cannot understand why they would take the younger brother and leave him behind !!

We know he existed because above is the baptism and he was born November 1862.

His brother Robert was born 1864 (September Quarter ) ??

There was hardly time to get another child in between and yet there is Edward James who was born in Scotland to them c 1862/1863.

Strange, though not impossible, that the two had the same middle name of James?

Edward James' death gives birthdate c 1862:

Name Edward J Wilson
Birth Date abt 1862
Date of Registration Jun 1938
Age at Death 76
Registration district Wolverhampton
Inferred County Staffordshire
Volume 6b
Page 538

I can see no birth or baptism for an Edward James and I am thinking that they did NOT leave a child behind but that Edward James is in fact Henry James ??

Given the name Henry but later called Edward....................

What does anyone else think?

Intrigued - used 5 credits to look at the birth certificate of Edward James Wilson on Scotland's People -
1 1862 WILSON EDWARD JAMES M HUTCHESONTOWN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/10 1832

it reads HENRY JAMES WILSON BORN NOVEMBER 15TH 1862

Parents John Wilson a Tinsmith Journeyman and Esther nee Brotherton. Married 21 January 1862 Wolverhampton.

Henry born 1 hour 45 min PM at 26 Rose Street, Glasgow

there is a note in the margin - - looks like - Dec Register of corrected entries Vol 1 Page 93 March 23 1863

I think you'll find that the Registrar mistakenly wrote Henry James Wilson when he should have written Edward James and that a correction was made in the register March 23 1863

The birth was registered by Esther on December 5th 1862 and although she appears to be able to sign her own name, perhaps she couldn't read well enough to realise the mistake. There is no doubt that the birth date was registered as November 15th 1862

I keep looking at the family of John Thomas POWELL (wife Esther) in 1881 (A*try). Step son Robert WILSON.
She's listed as Easter WILSON in 1871 and Robert's age is mistranscribed as 10 (looks like 6 on the image).
Esther WILSON marries John POWELL as a widow with father's surname as BROTHERTON. Esther BROTHERTON marries John WILSON 1862 Wolverhampton.

Oooo eeerrr!! - Just come back in and seen this - does that mean that I was right and Edward James and Henry James are the same person??

Still not quite sure whether he should really have been a Henry or an Edward though as the baptism says Henry but he is Edward on the 1871 ??

I was sure they were one person though so I don't suppose it really matters.

- Thanks for that info Greyghost.!!!
