Hi All I know about Jose M Adrio is he married my Great Aunt Violet Handscomb in Croydon 1980. Violet Died in Brighton in 1996 and seriously that is all I know about him. Can anyone please help I may have to buy the marriage certificate from the GRO but that will take at least 3 weeks to arrive in North Queensland ( if I am Lucky)

You have deleted your earlier thread about Violet, Sheila.

That's a pity, as people had done some research already, including the Marriage which safc has posted again here.

I can't remember what else was on it - I seem to think there were several bits of info about Violet, but we hadn't managed to find much, if anything, about Jose.

Buying the marriage cert may be your only option.

You had another thread about this couple didn't you?

I think you really do need to buy the marriage certificate to see if it gives any details of Jose's father.

I couldn't find a death registration for Violet in 1996 and have assumed she died abroad. Her daughter from her first marriage may have married in Croydon in 1977. It might be worth trying to find her.

Her will may have be proved at Brighton but that doesn't mean she died there

Lots of probate offices closed down so responsiblty for will probates were transferred

My hubby died last year in the Medway area of Kent I had to send his will for probate to Brighton to get the grant of probate done

Here's a list of Probate Registries. As you can see, there aren't that many of them. Probate can be dealt with by any regardless of were the person died. It often depends on where the solicitor, if used, is located as they tend to use their local one. An executor would rather use a local solicitor than one close to the deceased's home.

I didn't use a solicitor I did the probate myself as the executor

We did the wills with a local solicitor but I managed myself with probate

Because of our address Brighton was the probate office that dealt with our area

The husband of the 1977 marriage died in 2011.

So take into consideration that Carol may have remarried between 2011--2016

Exactly Shirley. It's were *you* lived, not necessarily were the person died. Although we know he didn't, he could have died while on holiday in Leeds. You'd have still used the Brighton (Sussex) office which is closest to where *you* live rather than the Leeds one 100s of miles away.
Now that there is greater mobility, it's not unusual for executors who are family to live in a different area of the country. They would contact the Registry local to them, not the deceased's last permanent address.

Good morning , I has been 1 month since I request the marriage lines from the GRO and today they have arrived


Jose Manuel Adrio was born in 1933 and at the time of this marriage( 5 April 1980 ) lived at the same address as Violet in Croydon and were married at Croydon Register Office. According to the GRO Certificate Jose was " 47 year old Batchelor " His father was Manual Adrio a retired policeman.

1 of the witnesses was a A Adrio

I would recommend getting a copy of violets will
