It says on the 1901 abobe that immigration year was 1872 and that they were married in 1880 - wouldn't the marriage therefore be in USA ?

I was thinking the same Dea.

For reference, on Julia's death certificate it says parents were John O'toole and Mary Carson

Possible Austin, but my cousins have the 1872 immigration record showing them already married.

The record details you have sent above, does give me another line of enquiry.

Thomas' passport application 1907 says he went to the US from Liverpool, sailing on the 'Brooklyn' in 21 Sept 1872.

Yes Austin that is the record. I cannot view the records on Ancestry allthough a member do not have worldwide subs.

I have emailed yours and Deas suggestions to him Re marrige in the US..
