In Canadian records on Family search William Smithers is living in Canada with Emily Turford as man and wife. According to FREEBMD Emily married Frederick Smithers in 1889.
They emigrated to Canada in 1911.
Can anyone find them on the passengers lists in 1911. Which would give their names and addresses. They had two children Victor Ambrose and Cecil William Smithers who travelled with them. Victor was 17 and Cecil was 12.
I would be grateful for any help.

Still looking for them on passenger lists, no luck yet.
This seems to be attestation papers for Cecil William. He seems to have lied about his age, claimed he was 19, born 9 April 1898 but birth certificate said 9 April 1899.

Margaret, many thanks, yes this the right family. As you can see the Father is shown as William, yet Emily Turford apparently married Frederick.

If she married Frederick Smithers in 1889 then this says that Emily was a widow in 1891 ??????

Dea
Yes I have seen the death certificate and the informant is given as William Smithers, husband. The parents are Thomas Turford and Hannah Clee.
Unfortunately It does not connect with Frederick int the BMD reference

Dea

Dea Report 28 Nov 2016 20:58

I can't get a proper transcription for this but it is 1901 and she is married to 'William' aged 37, Officer's servant, born Chobham, Surrey.

They are in some sort of Army establishment connected to the Royal Engineers.

Victor and Olive are also with them.

Dea x

EDIT - It is the 'School of Military Engineering'

Don't leave us in suspense Bruce - what line is it that you are following?

Bruce

Bruce Report 28 Nov 2016 21:37

William Smethers born 17.4.1864 in Titchmarsh, Northants. He was living in Lambeth London in 1901. But the Census shows his name as Smithers.
He married in February 1891, but his wife died in June 1891. I suspect in childbirth
as their son was born in (Apr-Jun) 1891 and was baptised on 7.8.1891.
I therefore was hoping that he had emigrated to Canada after marrying Emily, but as you can see this was not the case.

MargaretM

This looks like your William Smethers in 1911 with second wife BUT it says married 13 years.
