John Report 16 Feb 2017 10:14

I have somebody who entered the hospital in 1953 and died in there in 1959.

I assume that because of the 100 year rule I would not be able to see detailed records such as Warwick Davis was able to see on WDYTYA did last night.

Would though I be able to confirm if she was buried there?

Is anybody visiting the Kent History and Library Centre in Maidstone and can check the burials register?

Thanks

Oakwood park hospital was a Psychiatric Hospital and didn't, have its own cemetery

It took patients from all over so it's possible a person passing away there would be returned to their home for a funeral .

They could too have be buried or cremated in a local council run cemetery/crematoria

Getting the death cert and contacting the parks and cemeteries dept of Maidstone Council giving them the deatails from the death cert they may be able to give you some info

John yes you are right there was as separate cemetery

I meant my reply is as much that it wasn't in the grounds of the hospital I believe

I do know of someone who was in Oakwood for many years but when they passed away the family took them back to the medway area for burial in the family grave

It seems the cemetery closed in the 1950,s

The 100 year rule does apply

That is one thing I would like to find out, whether she was buried there or taken back to be buried closer to home.

Hello John, are you able to share her name?

Have you tried newspapers- they often give places of interment on death notices.

On Findmypast

Knight Rosa T 1891 1959 1959 England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007 Maidstone, Kent, England

At present I don't have a FMP subscription. Perhaps someone with one will be able to look for you. Might mention which cemetery she is buried at.

Good luck!

Although not directly related to John’s search, her estate did go to probate.

KNIGHT Rosa Tessa of 6 Kay Street, Welling Kent (wife of Cecil Arthur Knight) died 22 March 1959 at Oakwood Hospital Maidstone Administration London 6 July to the said Cecil Arthur Knight engineer fitter.

Following on from Shirley’s suggestion – have you looked for a burial in the Welling area? She's not listed on Ancestry's 'Bexley' burials nor on Deceased online which has the records for Eltham Cemetery & Crematorium.

John Report 17 Feb 2017 15:51

I have not looked in the Welling area. Welling comes under Bexley council.

The Bexley Burials, such as found for Cecil, are on Ancestry.

Rosa (nor Rose) Knight isn't listed there. I'm not sure if Cecil's plot is individual or a common grave, There aren't any other burials shown on the same page with the same plot number.

Somethings seems to have gone wrong with the image film-strip on Ancestry with pages either not in sequence, or missing.

For instance, images 99-102 are purely details on when and where the deceased was buried and the parish they came from. If loaded correctly, the previous image should have been the left hand half of a double page spread. That would have given their name, age and place of death (or residence before death)

The probate entry says she died 22 March.

On the visible part of the left hand page there are a few deaths close in date to that, although there’s no way of telling who they belong to.

Thanks DetEcTive, Cecil is buried with his second wife, which makes me think that his first wife Rosa is buried at Oakwood hospital.

I am not sure what buried in unconsecrated ground means. He is buried in a regular cemetery.
