Another child born to same couple:
(James Byrne and Margaret Kavanagh)

Catherine Byrne. Born 28 Nov 1915 at 3 Stewart Villas, Dublin

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1915/01361/1561315.pdf

There are a number of Byrne births in Dublin between 1914 and 1915 where the mother's name is also Kavanagh but these children have different parent names

Above is the only birth that I could locate with the same parents as William b 1913
James Byrne (Labourer) and Margaret Kavanagh

Edit:
1911 Marriage cert for James Byrne and Margaret Kavanagh
I missed the fact that James was a ...widower!
James lived in Bride Street at time of marriage but there are many Byrne families in this street at 1911.!
No idea how old he was and identifying prior to his marriage is proving to be a challenge

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 26 Mar 2017 11:26

Pauline,
The information found shows that James Byrne was married twice.
Neither wife was called Martha

His 1st wife was Mary Dalton.
Married in 1897 and Austin also found 4 births, of which, 2 died in infancy.
Austin has already posted the 1901 census
This 1st wife died between 1907 and census date of 2 Apr 1911

Widowed James is on the 1911 census ( also posted by Austin) with his parents in law and the 2 surviving children, named Bridget and Christopher
( it's not the 1911 census that you originally identified as William's parents)

James remarried Margaret Kavanagh later in 1911 ( after the census date)

So far, only 3 births are found from this 2nd marriage.
They were: James b 1912, William b1 913 and CATHERINE b 1915
.( perhaps she was known as Kathleen but she was definitely William's younger, FULL sister)

On your opening post, the info that you provided had been taken from a 1911 census in Dublin for a family that you misidentified
This was the family of a man named James Byrne his wife, Martha Murphy with an infant daughter named Kathleen.

This is not your Byrne family.
The man on this return was a van driver from Co Wicklow.
His wife was Martha Murphy also from Co Wicklow
This is not the man who married Margaret Kavanagh later in 1911

The child named Kathleen on this return is also a coincidence
Born in 1910, she was 5yrs older than James's own daughter named Catherine who was born in 1915 to his 2nd marriage

Your James Byrne was a labourer from Dublin rather than a Van Driver from Wicklow

Pauline Report 26 Mar 2017 12:11

I believe James was married before he married Margaret and he was a lot older than her also a few children with first wife I have looked on Ancestry for a possible marriage and mothers name
Thank you for all your help

the info now ..thank you

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 26 Mar 2017 12:57

Pauline,
I'm not quite sure why you are being "told" that James had a wife named Martha but the info on your opening post definitely comes from this 1911 census in Dublin .

This census is not relevant to your family but is where your info came from......
1911
House 2 in Avondale (Kingstown No. 2, Dublin)
Byrne James 29 Male b Co Wicklow
Byrne Martha 31 Female b Co Wicklow
Byrne Kathleen 0 Female

William Byrne who was born 26 Aug 1913 at 14 Townsend Street, Dublin to James Byrne and 2nd wife, Margaret Kavanagh has no connection to this family

Pauline

Pauline Report 26 Mar 2017 19:12

Thank you for all the info I think I was mislead with Martha ..in the family box there was a death for Martha died 1981 aged 74 husband James Byrne in Coolock Dublin
This is where I think it came from...

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 26 Mar 2017 22:17

Something doesn't add up Pauline.
I am confused

If you have a death in your family box for a Martha, wife of James Byrne who died in 1981 aged 74 yrs then this woman was born somewhere around ....1906!
If this cert is found among your family possessions, then surely it must be relevant to our family?

Who do you think she was?
This is her grave:

https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=pv&GRid=97258162&PIpi=91126236

Her age doesn't fit with any of the information that you supplied.
Especially not with the birth of William Byrne in 1913
(If she was 74 yrs old when she died it means she was only about 7yrs older than William ?}

If the 1981 death cert held in you family box is indeed relevant to your family, then you may need to start at the beginning again and work backwards again because the timeline doesn't fit

How do you connect to the Byrne family

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 26 Mar 2017 22:58

But Pauline also has the birth certificate of William born 1913?

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 26 Mar 2017 23:41

I know Austin and that's why I am bamboozled.

How does the 1981 death of a 74yr old woman named Martha connect to William who was about 7yrs her junior?

Her grave info states that her husband was in Deansgrange Cemetery.

There is a corresponding grave for a man named James Byrne who died on 18 Jan 1951 but I could not guarantee that this was her husband
Mentioned on the family grave of his sister who was born in 1874!

I tried to identify this man who died on 18 Jan 1951 but found none with this exact date
I located 6 deaths for men named James Byrne who died in Dublin in Jan 1951 but only 2 were married.(also 2 widowed and 2 single)
Both died in hospital and both deaths registered by hospital staff
One was 68yrs old and the other 75yrs old

I am starting to wonder if Margaret Kavanagh also died and her widower married a 3rd time?

3rd wife named Martha perhaps?

Edit:
Can't be right either.
The father of James who died in 1951 was called James !

Pauline

Pauline Report 28 Mar 2017 18:44

What Census are you are you referring to and "they always lived with someone else not their parents" can you clarify who these are in relation to James Byrne and ? Martha Kavenagh
