Pauline...On the family notice relative to Martha (1981) what details does it have ?

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 31 Mar 2017 10:04

Pauline,
When James 1st married in 1897, the certificate shows that his father was called William Byrne but, there is no indication that this father was still living at this time

James's address looks like: 71 Harris Street or something similar

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/details/48597018

His brother, Patrick married in 1907 but, this certificate shows that their father was already deceased at this time.
( therefore, we know that their father was deceased when James remarried in 1911)

The youngest brother William was aged 14yrs at 1901. Born circa 1887.

The problem is that their father could have died at any time in the 20yrs between William's birth and Patrick's marriage.
There are 86 deaths for males called William Byrne who died in Dublin in this time period
It could be like trying to find a needle in a haystack but, perhaps start with deaths in 1907 and work backwards in the hope that an address matches

Pauline,

Where are you getting information that anyone called Martha is connected to your family?

Is this death cert something that you collected?
Or was it already held within the family before you started researching?

Can to tell me how you connect to William b 1913 and how certain are you that you have the correct birth certificate?

Pauline

Pauline Report 31 Mar 2017 12:31

When my friends was looking at his dads things there was a box with an invite to Marthas wake so just thought there must be a connection
William knew he had a half bro Christopher and a sister Catherine and his dad was James

Pauline,
On your post of 24 Mar at 09.39 you quoted this
"Sometime after 1914 I think they lived at sland Villas Dublin"
How do you know this?

The reason that I ask is this:
I located a 1933 marriage for a man named James Byrne who lived at:
10 ISLAND VILLAS.
His wife was called Martha Oak.

James's father was called HENRY Byrne
Martha's father was George Oak

I have located this woman's birth cert and she was born in 1907 which also concurs with the approx year of birth for Martha Byrne who died in 1981.

I have no idea how James Byrne with either wife, Mary Dalton or Margaret Kavanagh would link to this family

Do you have marriage info for William Byrne b 1913?

Pauline

I Know William 1913 came to England and married Evelyn Heap 1944 at Lancaster father James
Could it be possible that James dad William had a younger bro Henry who had a son James??
The Martha dates match that you have found

It is entirely possible that James, Patrick and William Byrne had other siblings.

The problem is that Byrne was an extremely common name in Dublin.
Made worse by the fact that when James 1st married in 1897, he stated that his father was a Labourer.
On his 2nd marriage and on the 1907 marriage for brother Patrick, they both claimed that he was a Cabinet Maker?

Trying to locate births for these 3 brothers poses a challenge.
Even by sticking to Dublin South births, is not easy as there are dozens of potentials

I did try to weed out all those ( James, Patrick and William with approx years of birth) with a father named William but, I did not have time to go through every possible.

It's not impossible to do, it simply takes a lot of time and patience to ensure that all the births located have the same parents, or at least, the same father..!

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 31 Mar 2017 18:03

No ages on 1933 Byrne/Oak marriage
Simply says "Full Age" which I assume means over 21

Pauline...Don't know what value this is as I am still confused...(even more so ploughing through the Byrnes of Dublin Nth and Sth. BMDs)

1931 9th August RC City Chapel Dublin

Christopher Byrne (Full age) Packer. son of James Byrne (Fireman) of 2 Island Villas married Christine Mooney daughter of Gerald Mooney (Lab) 53 Townsend St. Dublin.
Confirms a Byrne family did at that time live 2 Island Villas.

It's valuable Eringobragh!

Pauline started out by looking for info on the parents of William Byrne b 1913.

It became apparent that William's father had married twice.
He was James Byrne who married Mary Dalton in 1897 and was widowed before the census date of 1911.
He remarried Margaret Kavanagh in 1911 but Pauline thought her name on William's 1913 birth cert said Martha Kavanagh, hence the initial confusion.

Christopher Byrne b 1907 is a child from James Byrne's 1st marriage with Mary Dalton and therefore, the older, half brother to the younger William.

The address adds up now.

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 31 Mar 2017 21:51

Christine was the daughter of Gerald Mooney and Bridget Weldon.. Bridget and Gerald living Townsend Street 1911 with Cath. Weldon mother in law.
Brid and Gerald married 22.4.1900
.John Mooney b.20 May 1900 20 Townsend St.

Incidentally address on James Byrne 's marriage to Mary Dalton is Francis St. (Full of Byrne's)
