Thank you Austin, that certainly looks very interesting :-) That was my next port of call, the criminal possibilities. It might explain a lot I think, also some of the changes of occupation on marriages and census.

Maybe he chose the surname Barnes as an alias because it is just across the river from Chiswick. :-D

that would possibly make that John a son of the Charles Wakeford whose daughter Mary married in Turnham Green, so from Sussex originally and so not mine.

Mary, I don't know but I might make the guess that as the 1899 marriage is bigamous John gave his father as deceased ( basing that on my bigamous grandfather on other side doing similar) ?

on the marriage of Annie gives George as a labourer

Name: Annie Maria Wakeprd ( Wakeford)
Estimated birth year: abt 1865
Age: 23
Spouse: William John Fishlock
Spouse Age: 46
Record Type: Marriage

Borough: Hounslow
Father Name: George Wakeferd
Spouse Father: William Fishlock

witnesses George and Emily Wakeford

Mary

Mary Report 7 May 2017 14:25

1899 marriage says dad George is deceased and an engineer
1901 John at home with parents Emily and George a coal and coke dealer!!

So were there 2 John Wakeford's with dad named George?
