Chrissie I've had a look at some Irish records, on FMP and irish.ie but nothing as yet.

How about this one
Parish of St Augustine Paddington
25/12/1897
William Coleman 21 of 167 CAMBRIDGE Road Umberella Maker dad Joseph deceased 1901 he was at (CAMBRIGDE Place)
Maggie Carney 19 spinster of same address dad Michael a Storeman.
When you look at marriage record it looks like her signature could be Maggie Clancey/Clancy in my eyes.
Witness's George and Matilda Fudge.

1901 George Fudge 1839 and Matilda Fudge 1846 Marylebone with Matilda Coleman granddaughter 1899.
Matilda is with William and Margaret in 1911

Thank you Mary that looks a very good possibility.

I don't understand the connection with George Fudge and his wife Matilda. It states on the census record that Matilda Coleman is their granddaughter but surely their surname would be Coleman or Clancey. I beleive George and Matilda married in 1895, Matilda was a widow.

Thanks for that Mary but still don't see where those listed above connect to the Coleman/Clancey family.

No neither do I,but I will keep looking for a connection as there are too many similarities.
Also I can't find a birth for either William or Bertie Caiger !!

ArgyllGran Report 24 Jul 2017 23:17

Reading through this thread, it strikes me that although a Matilda Coleman 1899 Maylebone is with the Fudges in 1901, she's also listed with her parents William and Margaret in Hendon in 1901. (Posted by Nyx on page 1)

Perhaps she was staying with the Fudges that night, but her parents still listed her at her home address. I have instances of that in my tree.

Perhaps the enumerator assumed she was their grand-daughter, rather than just the daughter of friends.

Maybe they were honorary "grandparents", as elderly neighbours of mine were to my children - we even called them Granny and "Da".
