chris ho you found a death for Thomas james Hopkins who was married to maria what puzzles me is that maria had a daughter annie 1855 but he died in 1848

Well who was below, posted earlier...sorry, but think this is all confusing, have you been buying Certs. as you worked back?...

(also you mention Annie 1855 on another 'Thread', but do you have her Birth Cert., why Northumberland on 1871, also Eliza?)

this is confusing to me yes that is john born 1851 and Richard was born in 1853 to maria saunders in the 1871 census it states annie L is daughter by former could be a mistake

well, a married woman's baby was always assumed to be fathered by her husband, even if he had been dead many years ...........

I found one where the husband had been dead 10 years, and I was told the other week of one where he'd been dead 12 years!

If the mother says she is married, she was not asked if the baby was her husband's ....... that was the immediate assumption. She wasn't asked that question, nor was she asked to provide proof that he was alive!

the birth was reg in malyon mother saunders but it was the 1871 that got me confused when it said that annie was daughter of former husband and says she is Hopkins also says eliza is born in Northumberland when she was born in bermondsey

Where is Maria Hopkins on 1851?, below Son is with Grandparents Thomas and Ann Hopkins, West Street, Bermondsey (same address as 1841)

So if Thomas James Death 1848 (as Burial posted earlier) don't think you can too much notice of 1871, haven't you got the Death Cert.?, in fact, I see I asked on a previous 'Thread' just what Certs. you did have to work from!.

she may not be living with him

I take it 1851 hasn't been found (not seeing on other 'Threads') with 1851 Census taken 30th March, and below, would have thought they were in Bermondsey, somewhere!...this is where the birth Cert. would help (Address perhaps) not seeing any Baptism on London, Ancestry)
