On there marr cert he james is down as dead, john lived at 99 leeds road methley or whitwood mere alice lived at 112 methley road,methley Nr Castleford, yorkshire

Castleford comes under Pontefract
he is no relation to me a mate in the club said he could not find his g/granddad I said I would give it a go,i know some nice people that might help.

Does the marriage cert give an occupation for James?

Probate for the John William Evans who died in 1940 goes to his widow Alice Mary. The address is 103 Leeds Rd, Castleford. So the 1939 Register I posted is the correct record for this couple.
I know we are looking for John's father but I thought this would give the correct birth date for John.

We still have this fact though.

Birth dates on the 1939 Register can be just as wrong as on every other record.

Case in point ........... my own grandfather lied about his date of birth to the day of his death in the 1960s. Then my uncle found a birth certificate tucked away in the back of a drawer some weeks after he had registered his father's death

As a result, not only is the 1939 Register wrong but so is grandfather's death certificate because they both show the date we were told.

Now Argllgran says john Williams dad was james evans and mum was ellen I have been pokeing around this evans game and I have come up with james as his dad 2/3 times. ellen as his mum once, I have also got his dad as George, there are 100s of evans in Pontefract may be 1000s about this time.
Up until john born in 1887 I am happy with and you guys have done a very good job and my love goes out to you guys.

Judith was b1938 west Yorkshire maybe methley she now is dead no one knows when but dead, frank schofeild 1931-1979[ no kids] maybe she remarr??????, they lived at 82 Savile road methley .
Kathrine b1948 marr 1968 at lower agbrigg Castleford area to a Michael d woodhouse he was born 1948 they did not stay in the UK they went to austrailier almost as soon as they could.

the suggestion that John William might have been the William Evans born in Wakefield (parents James & Ellen) was only that - a suggestion, because you had said his father was a James Evans, and that was the only one I could find in the right area.
I can't prove anything, unfortunately. As you say, there were loads of Evanses in the area at the time.



192.com shows a Judith Schofield in Methley, on the ER until 2013.
I don't have credits to see the exact address.
However,
rightmove.co.uk says that 82 Savile Road, Methley, was last sold on 30/08/2013.

So maybe Judith didn't remarry, and either died in 2013 - or moved into a care home or elsewhere?
