Hi
re Richard Oakley
As I said earlier I think that William Brown and Richard Oakley might be one and the same. There is no death registration for Richard between the Marriage in 1880 to Richard and the 1881 census where Sarah appears with William Brown
In 1891 William Brown says he was born in Alton Hants.
A Richard Oakley was registered in Alton and baptised on 8/09/1852 in Medstead (a parish in Alton ) Hants.Richard's parents were George and Caroline. Two of the children were George James and Ada Caroline .
Also when son Richard married he gave his father's name as Richard.

I did think that might be possible. Worth looking at, and worth buying the marriage cert for any clues it might give, father's name or witnesses that may be family?

Hello Nyx
I received the marriage cert for Richard Oakley(aged27 yrs) and Sarah Daniels (aged 24 yrs) today.
They married 12/08/1880 in The Registry Office, St George in the East.
Father of groom says George Oakley,a labourer
Father of the bride says James Daniel (deceased),a labourer,
Witness 1 Frederick Thomas John Danvers
Witness 2 Charlotte Danvers ( née Daniels )

From the info we have I believe that William Brown is Richard Oakley. Why did he,between August 1880 and the 1881 census, change his name ?? It is very frustrating.

It's a mystery alright Wendy.

On the marriage cert does it give Richard's occupation ?
