EDIT, goodness me what was I thinking! I was so involved in C & P so it made a little bit of sense, that I forgot the most important word.... Please!

This is Edward Fishlock on the 1901 census

1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
4, Hope Street, Newington, St Saviour Southwark, London & Surrey, England

Edward Fishlock Head Married Male 34 1867 General Dealer Walworth, Surrey, England
Alice Fishlock Wife Married Female 33 1868 - Westminster, Middlesex, England
William Fishlock Son Single Male 13 1888 - Southwark, Surrey, England
James Fishlock Son Single Male 11 1890 - Walworth, Surrey, England
Alice Fishlock Daughter - Female 5 1896 - Walworth, Surrey, England
Edward Fishlock Son - Male 3 1898 - Walworth, Surrey, England
Henry Fishlock Son - Male 1 1900 - Walworth, Surrey, England

The oldest son William Joseph is the son of Edward's first wife Emma Siddons who died 1890.

Fairly certain this is Edward as a widower in 1891

1891 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Camden Street, Newington, St Saviour Southwark, London & Surrey, England

Edward Fishlock Head Widower Male 25 1866 Toy Maker Surrey, England

His son William Joseph is not with him ( FISHLOCK, WILLIAM JOSEPH mmn SIDDONS
GRO Reference: 1887 D Quarter in ST SAVIOUR SURREY Volume 01D Page 28)

I know where William is 1901 as above, and also 1911 when he is a boarder 1 Bronti Place Walworth, St Mary Newington, London & Surrey, England ( a few doors away from family )

But where is he on the 1891 census when he would be about 3 ?

Also, and well done if you have waded this far lol,

on the 1911 Edward and Alice ( nee Marcham, Edward F's 2nd wife) say they have been married 24 years but I can't spot the marriage on FMP...maybe on Anc'?

Yes, I think that William James Turton is the James Fishlock listed on the 1911 census with Edward, Alice and their children.

EDIT

He was probably known as James as Edward already had William Joseph?

Is this Alice's death please?

I think her husband George Turton outlived her so she was never free to marry Edward. There is a possible for George with another "wife" in Battersea on the 1901 and 1911 census and he's still in Battersea in 1939 as a widower.

Perhaps the Marcham / Turton marriage certificate is needed to check the ages and father's names and occupations. It would also confirm if the Battersea George was Alice's husband.

ah yes thanks rootgatherer , I hadn't thought of that James being William J Turton but that makes sense :-) I'd looked at the younger children for mmn but not gone back to james,

Thankyou :-)

Have you checked all the 1891 census for Edward and Emma's parents and siblings oust in case William Joseph is lurking there under a different surname?

Rambling

Rambling Report 27 Sep 2017 18:58

Edward's parents were both deceased and I think I have covered all his siblings while looking for his brother ( adopted by his step aunt lol) but I will have a look for Emma's family after tea :-) .
