Does the marriage cert show any relations as witnesses

What is her date of birth on the 1939 register

It's not unusual for a father's name to be made up to save face when illegitimate or for another male family member to be named again just to indicate born in wedlock

Hi
I am trying to find information on my Uncle Henry Etherington born in Oldham c1908, his mother was Jane Etherington (my grandmother) His fathers name could/maybe be Henry Etherington who married Jane Davies in 1909. on the 1911 census he is listed as step-son, and name listed as Henry Davies Etherington.

So she says her birth is 15.8 1882 which means it should be reg in sept or Dec qtr

Sept qtr would be a bit tight for her birthday as the ladies usually had a six week laying in time after the birth which is why the 6 weeks to register a birth was brought in

So could be either of these

Births Sep 1882
Davies Jane Dolgelly 11b 388

This reg district covers Barmouth
GRO record showing illegitimate
DAVIES, JANE - Order

Or the only other one but it doesn't cover the areas she says born

1891 Census needed!...

Albert Report 12 Jan 2018 19:21

Hi Shirley & Chris
thanks ,yes there are two people as witness's Fred Etherington who i think is an older brother and a Sarah Etherington another relative, and the 58 Guilford street address is correct and all listed there,as I used to visit my Granddad (Henry) there and uncle Frederick when granddad moved out in the 40's & 50's , her date of birth on the 1939 register islisted as 15th Aug 1882, I know uncle Henry was Illegitimate he was born in 1908 and some one at the LDS church thought that when Henry married Jane in 1909 he adopted him, also another mystery is some where there is a Thelma Davies also born out of wedlock to Jane Davies?? as every one alive today all said she was dad's half sister?? but whether Jane is the mother I do not know ? all I seem to remember was dad called her his sister, and i seem to remember a storey?? that she was a foundling?? another cover up.
Oh And Chris these Etherington's are my family are you related to them also through Henry?? again thanks to you both looking to hopefully to hear more on them

and as for the 1901 Census I have a copy of it with her brother Hugh and sister Elizabeth, taken in Barmouth, the only thing I am not sure about is, if it is my Grandmother, as I have not got her in any other Census with family only the ones when she is married to Henry Etherington? so cannot link her up prior to her marriage, unless I am missing somethink??

Albert Report 13 Jan 2018 14:27

Yes the birth date is all over the place from 1879 to 1883, but on two of her records it actually states Aug 1882, so I am leaning towards those, the LDS church told me years ago that birth and marriage ages where very often out by 2-5 years for one reason or another, thanks for your help

Would be interesting to see actual 1879 Cert., for Birthdate...

If 1882 then that's not her on 1901 with Brother Hugh (think his Baptism nails that one!)...

But not forgetting her Father named as Griffith on 1909 Marriage Cert?...

Back to square one then...

Hi Argyl/gran & Chris
(A/G) 1891 census rang a bell with me,as we where in Salt lake city for a day and visited the LDS head quarters there, and did a few hours research while there, and the gentleman who was helping us came up with that census,The Places and dates fairly matched and he said that the Laura listed could be Jane and marked it on the record he gave me,and all the children on where grandchildren,he also said that Griffith Occ: as labouror was a general statement for lots of jobs, I forgot about it as it was put away as my wife died soon after, and have not been on here for nearly two years, also if his wife had died it would make sense him living with his parents while at Sea??

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Jan 2018 17:06

Yes, I wondered if Laura could be Jane - I don't see the birth of a Laura, and her age in 1891 is the same as Jane's would be.
