I have this marriage:16th January 1881.Albert memorial collyhurst.:James smith age 22, batchelor occupation "painter".Father Henry smith:Shoe maker,
Married Margaret wood age 22,spinster.Father:Andrew wood,tailor
I have them on the 1881 census with Margaret's mother Ellen wood (born 1825 in Ireland)...For the life of me i cannot find them after this 1881 census

There are several James & Margaret Smith couples in later censuses, but not all POB's match, so far as I can see at the moment.

Re the James and Margaret in 1901, that couple are both pedlars / hawkers.
Doesn't fit with 1881 occupations, never mind James's birthplace.

Mind you, "machine minder" in 1881 doesn't fit with "painter" at marriage the same year!

The earlier census for Margaret certainly fits with 1881 - perhaps circumstances forced James to change his line of work

Henry smith born 1824 in cowling Yorkshire and his wife Ann 1824-1864 were my 4 x gt grand parents

It's possible Margaret died and James maybe remarried or emigrated alone??
There are so many James Smiths of about the right age.
