Not at all rootgatherer! It's good to know you're thinking the same as me. Well done on finding the marriage of George Horne Buchanan in the first place!

It bothers me that the 1911 has the initials G H for what is, presumably, his mother. :-S :-S

Ach my nose is bothering me too much!!! I'm going to have a look at the MC. Will let you know what I find out.

Right they were married at Argyle House, Portobello. He was a 34 year old mechanical engineer residing at 69 Caledonia Rd, Glasgow. She was 21, of Argyle House, Portobello.

His father was George Buchanan, gilder (foreman) and mother was Jane Buchanan MS Horne.

Her father was Thomas Mitchell, cattle salesman and her mother was Jane Mitchell MS Oliver (dec).

George Buchanan and Jane R S McGann? were witnesses. The officiating minister was James Oliver, Minister Church of Scotland, Portobello. A relation??

Now that Alviegal has found George Horne Buchanan's family on the census records, I think this could be his father's death. Later than you thought but the registration district fits with the census records

Again if you buy credits for Scotlandspeople, the entry will name his parents, including his mother's maiden name if the informant knew the details. It will also say if he was "married to". Or "widower of" and help narrow the timescale for his wife's death. That way you can verify her parents. All that will take you back a further generation for your grandchildren.

This is probably the death registration of John Horne ( grandfather of Jane Buchan nee Horne). It should give you his parents names and the maiden name of his wife Janet. I suspect that Janet died before statutory registration began in Scotland in 1855.
