I can't see another Rosetta in the area Dea, and it's a bit of a coincidence of 45 Picken Street, where James shows on the valuation roll at 45 Kippen Street - maybe the newspaper report got it a bit wrong?

Strange though, I think by 1905 they had 4 children, maybe 2 were elsewhere.

If the newspaper report could put Picken instead of Kippen, I'm sure It's not a stretch to put McMaron instead of McErlaine!

I had a look at the few "possibles" for James in Scotland in 1911, as posted on the other thread.

However, no further forward.

The most likely geographically seemed the one in Possilpark:

From a basic free search, that James is with a wife/partner Jessie (32) and two children, Archibald (4 ) and Marion (6).

Rosetta was in Hartwood Asylum, Shotts, in 1911, so maybe he had taken up with another woman.
However, from daughter Marion's birth cert.
Father: James Anderson Dalrymple, blacksmith journeyman.
Mother: Jessie Dalrymple, ms Wilson.
Parents married 12/07/1901 in Kelvin district, Glasgow.
The middle name is shown on the marriage record.

"Our" James doesn't have a middle name in any other record.
Also the marriage is very soon after the 1901 census on 31 March when he's with Rosetta.

Looking at the other possibilities:

The one in Leith is with his parents Helen and James, and is also with them in 1901.

The one in Wemyss, Fife, is with his father James (61), and is with his parents in 1901.

The one in Kilwinning is with his wife Jessie and children Isabel (2) and Henry (1).
Henry's birth cert says his father was an insurance agent - so unlikely to be the right one unless he'd had a major change of occupation.
James and Jessie (ms Cross) married 6/11/1907 in Calton district, Glasgow.

And the one in Kirkmahoe is with his father Robert. I can't see that James or Robert conclusively in 1901, but I feel he's not likely to be the right one.

Thanks for checking those out, I agree none look likely. Also you share my thoughts on the newspaper report - maybe whoever was reporting it misheard or mis-spelt the name & address. It does look likely to be "our" Rosetta.

I've just trawled through all the deaths on GRONI from 1905 to 1967 (latest available online) and none would match with his age. Scotland's already been checked, as has England/Wales. So in my mind the possibilities are he just changed his name and left the family (in which case we'll never find him) or his death was registered by someone who didn't know his details or he moved abroad.

I'll contact the library suggested after the NY see what they can come up with.

Thanks for all the help.
