ArgyllGran Report 26 Jan 2019 19:26

But Anne Gardner/Renew (1898) listed with William J in 1939 is his mother, not his sister. She's listed as Renew, then that's been changed to Gardner, which was a mistake , so it's been changed back to Renew.
On Ancestry, there's a closed record between Anne and William J, which is probably the sister.

However -

It's not William Renew (mms Hemsworth) that we're trying to find out about.

It's the other one, apparently born 11 Sept 1922, and living in Watford in 1939.

That’s the sister of the man who survived.

The query relates to the man who died in 1944 who is on 1939 in Watford

Quite likely its him and he changed his name - Probably a coincidence as I dont think the Hendon branch - while probably distant relations - knew each other as no near link as been found.
The Ernest Joseph Renew born 1916 died during WW2 and is named on the Chatham Memorial. he is a cousin of the Bethanal Green family.

It's unlikely, Malyon, as the man we're looking for was in Watford in 1939, and in the British army in WW2.

ADDED:

In fact, definitely not.
William J Renno joined the US Army in 1942.

I got lost here with the naming of the sister so thought that was the one being looked for

If the one being looked for is a relative then you can order a copy of their army records
