I am appealing for possible help with a family history conundrum. At the time of the 1911 census, my paternal great aunt was living at 180 Dalton Road with my uncle, which was also the tobacconists J.R.Kermode where she worked. My uncle Ralph was born at 13 Telford Street in Barrow in May 1910 . My great aunt was Esther Amelia Frankenburg, aged 31 in 1911 and sometimes called Hetty and her husband was Frank, a German citizen but not mentioned on the census. A year later my aunt was married to Reginald Belshaw and my uncles name was changed accordingly. We have never been able to establish what happened to Frank although my uncle maintained there were rumours of his suicide, but no death was ever recorded. He just disappeared.
My aunt went on to live in various towns in the Lake District, including Walney Island, before moving back to Birkenhead, where she had lived as a child.
Esther had a brother Samuel Cooper and two sisters Edna Oliver and Ida Rose Haxton. She lived out her years in Birkenhead and died there in about 1961. I suspect her siblings were also in that part of the country. Ralph moved to Derby in 1928 when Vickers set up International Combustion Limited, and settled here for the rest of his life. He never ever met his father or found out what happened to him or even saw a photograph of him.
Any help in establishing what happened to my Frank Frankenburg would be most welcome.

Perhaps Frank went back to Germany? Could Frank be a nickname because of his surname and more Anglicised.

Perhaps Esther and Frank just lived together because one or other of them was already married to someone else

She does also claim in 1911 to be a German citizen by marriage, but I don’t imagine it would have been verified.

She married Belshaw in 1913 - what did she say about her ‘status’?

Twins born the same quarter she married using MMN Frankenburg.

Do you know Christine? She has a lot of these names in her tree on here. She also has a Ralph Frankenburg born in Germany in 1870.
