Looked again and could be as the next one older than John was Thomas who would be 18 now.Its just that on the 1841 no parents by the names given were listed but the elders seemed too old to be the parents if you know what I mean..Getting very confused cos they all seem to repeat their names down the generations and seem to marry people by the same names as well..Will have another look and thanks Reg..wanda.x

Did John marry? If so, the cert will clarify things, at least with regard to who his father was............ Reg

ErikaH Report 8 Apr 2007 23:26

The name is written as Wm.....but with the 'm' at the top of the 'w', and the Ancestry transcriber has misread the name as Ann........... He is listed first, so must be head of the household, presumably married to Martha............ Reg

No idea as yet to whether John married.Started out trying to find John Goulden born 1859 Manchester.Had no luck so thought I would work backwards and see if I could connect alll the Johns etc that were throwing me.In other words eliminate the uncles Johns etc they named.Wanda.x

I will start at the beggining...Looked for Mary Ellen Goulden dob abt 1893 with fathers name of John on 1901 census. The only one near enough to be her was Mary Ellen Golden with father John Golden dob 1859 born Chorlton.Had no luck with either of them and family members listed so thought I would try to work from the 1859 dob.Looked at 1891 census and the next one that came near was John Goulden 1859.I matched the 1901 and 1891 census by the next door neighbour called Mary Quinn. When I looked back at census`s the nearest I could find as John`s father was Thomas Goulden dob abt 1833 and so went from there...but in 1861 census Thomas is now called Goulding but in 1871 becomes Goulden again...so you see how Im fixed on this??Wanda.x

What Im trying to do is find all the family members and where hey bramched off to and then perhaps work out the children that John Goulden has later on.Cant find them listed as his children so thought they could perhaps be his relations but not put down as such.At the moment anything could be right..Wanda.x

Hi Reg, hope you havnt given up on me.Will be back tomorrow night. In the meantime will try and sort out a few of the census`s and link them up as Hindley is a small place so they must all be related near enough in some way. Thanks for helping.Wanda.x

Oh Reg thank you..Thought I was blind-deaf and dumb! for a mo there.Yes it is off her marraige cert. She married a Thomas Mitchell in 1914 and fathers name was John Goulden-hawker.As I had no luck finding out her birth, thought it might be best to see if I could work out the family history as their names repeat and through the Gouldens history.I thought that if I tied up them up into family groups then I might get a little closer to finding her.Have done really well on the census`s but a lot of mystery and I dont know why for all of them in 1881.Perhaps miss-spellings...Thanks for coming back Reg as I know if you cant solve it then I dont stand much of a chance.Wanda.x
