My grandmother Kate (maybe Kathleen) Gadd formerly Fruin - DOB about 1865 -Ealing - London - had about 13 children mostly all girls how do I find their names. She married a James Gadd Thank you for your help -my father was the youngest child in the family he was born 1909 - I had one message saying it looks like my grandmother married twice - maybe that surname being Harris My father James Gadd went into an Orphanage - boys only in the area in 1918 when his mother Kate Gadd was struck down by the flu -I think she died then (the orphanage was with the Salvation Army -which I have never been able to find any record of this) when he married later in life he was unable to find his sisters because they were all girls possibly married with a changed name -I have written to the home addresses I have but no luck their. I am happy to buy cert., for his sisters when I am sure they are possible the right ones.

You find her marriage, then look through the birth indices for the years which follow. What was her husband's first name? Reg

KathleenBell Report 7 Apr 2007 21:48

When was she married? Was Kate her full name or was it Katherine/Kathleen etc. Could we find her on the census with some of the children? What was her husband's first name? Sorry for all the questions. Kath. x

Goode ........ you'll HAVE to get the marriage certificates to sort this out. Sylvia

I looked for all the Gadd children born in Brentford (as this seems to be a significant place!) between 1902 and 1917. They are very probably NOT all 'your' family, but there is no way of knowing otherwise. There were 14 Gadd children born between 1902 and 1909. Following are the ones born between 1909 and 1915 ..... 1909 because that looks like your father's birth. Births Dec 1909 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GADD Richard James Brentford 3a 141 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Mar 1911 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadd Henry E J Brentford 3a 153 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Jun 1911 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadd Frank G Brentford 3a 166 Gadd Nelly Brentford 3a 150 Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Jun 1912 (98%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadd George W Rooke Brentford 3a 252 Births Mar 1913 (88%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadd George Sheehan Brentford 3a 290 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Mar 1915 (73%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GADD John Sheehan Brentford 3a 317 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Jun 1917 (95%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadd Rose E Ward Brentford 3a 241 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Sep 1917 (90%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadd Peter G Barker Brentford 3a 234 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Dec 1917 (88%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadd Winifred F Rooke Brentford 3a 224 - - - This is all taken from Freebmd which you can look at yourself ..... it's free. BUT they have not yet got the records on after 1913, so you will have to go to ancestry uk, sign on for free to look at the Complete Index to UK Births Marriages and Deaths, and look quarter by quarter, year by year, to see if you can find any more. THEN you will have to buy the certiifcates. It is a tedious task ...... and it is most unfair to ask someone else to do this for you when you do have access for free and can do it yourself!

GOODE WARNING< WARNING< WARNING ......... you MUST double check everything that anyone has told you on here, including what I have given you!! And that means getting the certificates, looking at the actual parish records, etc etc. You are the only one who knows the family, you may be able to get the names from living relatives to confirm. BUT YOU NEED THOSE CERTIFICATES! We are NOT foolproof!

Gill

Gill Report 8 Apr 2007 22:52

Hi If you're sending for any certificates and don't want to waste money on ones that are not related, give the registrar details of parents names etc. Most registrars are very helpful and will check details and only send them out if they match

Goode Report 8 Apr 2007 23:09
