Find Ancestors

I'm trying to find any records of STEPHEN DOWNS MOAD c1835 He was born in South Shields and appears in both the 1871 census and the 1881 census. In both records he appears as just plain Stephen Moad. Occupation painter/house painter. However I've just got hold of his sons marriage certificate and in that he is called Stephen Downs Moad. He married ANN SCANDLON (name from sons birth cert) born Ireland c.1836. They had several children:-....Rebecca 1854,......Sarah 1856,...... Ann 1859......... William Renwick 1862....... Isabella c1867....... James 1869 (my grandfather) I'd be really grateful for any help or advice. Jan x

Hi Reg, Just got all excited when I realised that you had writen ANN MOAD born Sunderland, thinking that you had found a sister to Stephen, and given they were the same age, possibly a twin sister, then came back down to earth with a bump when I realised that twins aren't usually born in separate towns (my excuse is sleep depravation). 1901 wild guess as image is not Head - when compared to 'H' of Head of household. No it's no good, it doesn't matter what I try I can't find Stephen Moad in the 1901 census

Hi Gail, I've looked in the 1901 census and can't find any Stephen Moad, yet if you're right ( and I'm sure you are), he didn't die until the end of the year. Any ideas as to why this might be? Did they include hospital patients etc in the census? Thanks Jan :)
