Hi all am looking for first marriage info for a James Banks born 1859 he married Susan Maslin in 1888 but had been previously married no details known at all on previous marriage. On the 1891 cenus there are other children that are not james and susans children only one is there child which is Caroline born 1889. Can anyone help with this thanks in advance

I think I may have found him in 1881, but not sure... the children in the 1901 are children of james and susan none are from the first marriage so not sure where the first marriage children are perhaps with mother at this time or older and moved on

in 1881 james would of had rosina around age 3 and first wife as he didnt marry susan until 1888

Your best bet would be to try to find the birth certificate of one of the children which would give the mother's name. Kath. x

Are you sure the children were not Susan's and took the name of Banks when she married James ? I have had this happen in my tree. Looked for a previous marriage, when they were really step-children of the Head... Do you know if she was a spinster ( Susan ) when they got married ? Just a thought. Debbie O'

Susan was still living at home in 1881 with her parents, and no sign of a Rose(ina). I'd go with them being James' from a previous marriage.

i have the marriage cert of susan she was 20 at time of marriage and was a spinster however James was 27 and is stated as a bachelor however he may of told a little porky as i have been told he was married before. The children in the 1891 cenus are definetly James's children but not susans perhaps il get a childs birth and see what it states.
