Yep - exactly. I think it's the right family as James (Snr) is a Carman in 1881 and 1891.

i have the marriage cert of susan she was 20 at time of marriage and was a spinster however James was 27 and is stated as a bachelor however he may of told a little porky as i have been told he was married before. The children in the 1891 cenus are definetly James's children but not susans perhaps il get a childs birth and see what it states.

Susan was still living at home in 1881 with her parents, and no sign of a Rose(ina). I'd go with them being James' from a previous marriage.

Are you sure the children were not Susan's and took the name of Banks when she married James ? I have had this happen in my tree. Looked for a previous marriage, when they were really step-children of the Head... Do you know if she was a spinster ( Susan ) when they got married ? Just a thought. Debbie O'

You can see the IGI for free at familysearch.org The BMD index doesn't give MMN until 1912 :(

There are these four people all on the same page for a marriage in 1877:- Matthew Bailey 1877 Apr-May-Jun St Saviour Southwark London, Surrey James Banks 1877 Apr-May-Jun St Saviour Southwark London, Surrey Charlotte Hill 1877 Apr-May-Jun St Saviour Southwark London, Surrey Rosa Hillyard 1877 Apr-May-Jun St Saviour Southwark London, Surrey Just wondered if he could have married Rosa Hillyard, since his eldest child is called Rosina. Your best bet would be to try to find the birth certificate of one of the children which would give the mother's name. Kath. x
