Cheers ! It ALL helps ... process of ellimination. Benjamins Mum sure did get around girls !! lol ! The only thing I have noticed is that she did SEEM to be married before having the children. This leads me to believe that she DID marry James McL Henderson ........ and I am at the point now that I really do think they MAY have married onboard ship ....... but WHERE you find the indexes for those marriages beats me !! I WILL find out ! The other thing to consider is that James was NOT deceased in 1949 .... Benjamin just believed that ! when he got married. Chances are that the father also married again .......or went back to his first wife (if indeed he had been married at the time ! Elaine ;-)

Have either of you thought of sending off for James's Naval records ? You have the details of his Occupation etc and the name of the ship he was working on. Maybe his service records would shed some lite on his situation ? Elaine ;-)

James Henderson marriages. June qtr 1918 Spouse surname = Massey (Manchester) = Ling, (Barrow Furness) = Langton (Middleboro) = Tellefsen? (Stockport) then goes on to Jane Henderson marriages. No McL mentioned babe ... sorry. We have searched 1915 onwards upto 1925........ the ONLY James McL Henderson marriage is the one that Reg found in 1915 to a Vera Mathews. I also checked for Florence Monday marriages upto and including Dec 1920 ....only 1 result, that was to a Frederick Surey in Dec 1920. Tracey: Who actually registered the birth of Benjamin please ? was it Mum ? Elaine ;-)

Searched the online Naval records at the National Archives from 1900-1905, off course I don't know how complete this is but they only had one James Henderson joining in 1928. There was no James Mclean Henderson either before or after. This is the one who joined 1905. Description Name Henderson, James Official Number: M36715 Place of Birth: Kendal, Westmorland Date 16 November 1905 Catalogue reference ADM 188/1091 Dept Records of the Admiralty, Naval Forces, Royal Marines, Coastguard, and related bodies Series Admiralty: Registers of Seamen's Services Piece 36501-37000 Image contains 1 item for the catalogue reference

ErikaH Report 8 Mar 2006 17:55

Tracey I seem to remember asking you the same question...........so, as the mother registered the birth, there is, in fact, no proof as to who the father was. It doesn't get any clearer, does it? Reg

Haligonian Report 8 Mar 2006 18:43

Yes Reg You Did, it dosnt does it, What do you think about, If i look up the death for fredrick surey see if he died just before the henderson so called came along. Just a thought it may have been one of the many marrages this lady had. I really dont know which angle to take now, I have sore marks on the top of my head where i keep rubbing it with all the confusionLOL Tracey

Bradford is not very far from Halifax at all, so if it's right, it's a definite possible :) *pokes nose in again* can't find him in 1901 though....

Fiona Report 8 Mar 2006 22:35

Hi Elaine, I checked 1894 after I saw Sarah's message and could find NO birth, had to look one quarter up on 1837 as the page was missing from Ancestry..........still no James Mclean Henderson. Fiona.

Hi girls, 'fraid I came to the same conclusion re births ... none with middle initial M. Checked 1901, and yes, there are a couple of James Henderson's born around the 1896 time but no way of knowing if he's one of them. Definately NEED to find the marriage IF there is one ( which - don't ask me why - I believe their IS one somewhere ! ?? ) I think, that, for now, you have hit a definate brick wall, on the Henderson side. If they did marry ... there MAY be divorce papers somewhere ? ... never been down this road before, so this need's someone else's intervention. Has anyone checked for a death prior to her second marriage ? look 9 months before Benjamin was born and search upto the qtr in which she got married 2nd time ! I'll keep him in mind and if anything comes up, I'll let you know my thoughts. Elaine ;-)
