Lise Report 7 Mar 2006 14:07

Elaine Totally lost now, may be it was just a simple miscalculation of numbers that lead me to the wrong certificate in the first place, Yes I dont know why i have a cert for 1870 , ive obviously got the completey wrong person, how stupid could I have been not to check the most important fact, So I should be ordering a cert for richard abt 1874 ish with parents Ellen & WIlliam. May be things will start to make sence a little bit more now.... Im really really sorry for all the misunderstanding... Especially to Pete, many thanks to you too, and all you lovely people for taking the time to sort my dilema Once again sorry and thanks Lise xx :) :) :) :) :)

Births Sep 1873 PARTINGTON Robert Henry Bolton Births Dec 1875 Partington Richard Bolton 8c 416 This would make him approx = 32 on marriage cert ... but wouldn't tie in with the census's that say he was born 1877. I would be careful when ordering another cert. If your happy that Dad was William, then use father William Partington as a checking reference on any cert you order. they won't send you the wrong cert, but will charge you just £3 for checking. *** Lise, His Father is William - YES ... but Mother may NOT be Ellen. We NEED to look for a Richard b 1874 with father William now.

I can see why you chose the Richard Partington from Salford ! cos Richard and Susan got married in Salford. They married in Salford because that's were Susan lived. If it was MY tree, I would consider the fact seriously, that Richard gives WILLIAM as his father name. You should consider the Richard Partington that Pete found as a boarder on 1901 census. He was born 1874 ... a Painter ? but I have no idea where Miles Platting is either. WHO are the witnesses at the wedding please ? Elaine ;-)

Unknown Report 7 Mar 2006 14:36

1891 census has a Richard Partington aged 17 (b 1874) a PAINTER.<<<<******* Mother is Maria (Wid) Dressmaker 50 John 19 Richard 17 <<<<<<<<<<<<<< Painter b 1874 Ellen Fletcher (Daughter) Wid 26 Thomas Fletcher 4 Grandson. All born Manchester. Living in civil parish of Beswick, Manchester

1881 has a John Partington b 1870 AND William Partington b 1869 in the Workhouse... but I can't find Maria (Mother) YET ! ... with Richard b 1874 Lise, you should tread very carefully now. You need to get some more evidence together before you start ordering certificates. here is that family on 1861: William Partington abt 1839 Manchester, Lancashire, England Lodger Manchester Lancashire Maria Partington abt 1842 Manchester, Lancashire, England Wife Manchester Lancashire Isabella Partington abt 1860 Manchester, Lancashire, England Daughter Manchester Lancashire

Hi Elaine, I didnt realise how difficult this was going to be, In answer to your earlier question the witnesses at the wedding of richard and susan were , William and Alice prince. Lise

Fiona Report 7 Mar 2006 15:15

Dancer is William with wife Maria a Weaver?? That would clinch it! Hope she comes back to read what else you've added before ordering certs. P.S. Nice going by the way!! Think your William and Maria look promising.

Unknown Report 7 Mar 2006 15:15

William & Alice Prince .... thats who the 1901 Richard is boardering with isn't it ?? I'll go and check. I have added some further details - re 1871 & 1891 census.

Unknown Report 7 Mar 2006 15:18

FC... will check shortly !! Lise: 1901 census ... Yes, Richard is boarding with the Prince family .... so Pete found the correct one earlier. I'll go and check William's occupation on the census's !

1861: William is Journeyman Cotton Spinner 1871: Cotton Spinner Wonder if the death I found earlier is for this same William ? Can't find Maria, William or Richard on 1881 1891: Maria is wid, Richard is Painter 1901 Richard is boarder (House Painter) with William Prince (House Painter) & wife Alice. 1907 William & Alice Prince are witnesses at Richards wedding. ******** 1901 is definately correct Richard 1891 I would say is 95% correct Richard 1871 & 1861 I would say 95% correct Maria with hubby William ! who's name Richard gives as his father on marriage cert. If your happy Lise, then I would send for a 1874 birth cert, staing Father William and Mother Maria as checking reference .... but your NOT looking for a BOLTON birth now, more likely Manchester one.

Maybe ??? Births Mar 1874 Partington Richard Chorlton 8c 796 There is a birth in 1873 for Manchester Births Sep 1873 PARTINGTON Richard Manchester 8d 164 I REALLY wouldn't like to say :-( Thing is, IF he was born before June 1873, then he WOULD have said he was 34 at marriage in June 1907. Therefore, any birth between June 73 - March 74 (inc) could be him. Elaine ;-)

Elaine, F C Michigan and pete in Glos, WOW - what a team. It would have taken me literally months to find what youve done in a matter of hours, Im amazed, and extremely greatful. I really cant thank you enough, a BIG thank you. On Ancestory do you need to have a yearly subscription to access the infomation on the census records, does this subscription allow you to have complete access for £70 ?? Lise

Lise/DD Miles Platting is a small area very close to Beswick and Manchester centre, it is still named that today... Its neighbouring town is a place called Collyhurst also still named that too. Registration district is Manchester! My fathers G - grand parents were born there! Lib

Unknown Report 7 Mar 2006 16:23

Hi again Lise, Yes, £70 just about covers it. Access to all census for England, Wales, etc. Not Scotland, Ireland or USA though. 1851 - 1901. 1841 we are all holding our breath for - hopefully Easter ?? Manchester birth is most likely ! bearing in mind what LL has said (Thanks LL) Elaine ;-)

Lise Report 7 Mar 2006 16:42

Hi LL Just wondered on another matter, have you any ideas or point me in the right direction where to start looking for a site that allows you to view newspaper articles written abt 1970 ish, the paper was a local one called the journal I think in the salford area on a scottish relative who married a scottish lady, but when he died in 1971 it became apparent though newspaper articles that he already had another wife and family living in scotland and we want to find the circumstances surrounding these events but are unsure where to start with a search. Any ideas ?? Lise
