Hi, As many of you are aware I am trying to trace Percy Harold Carltons birth. I am about to buy some credits for 1837 but is there any other way to search as when I have put in Percy Harold Carlton it gives me loads of pages to check. When looking at them only a few have even a Percy. It just brings up any pages with Carlton. Thanks Zoe :)

Thanks Rosemary, I thought that must be it, the only way is to check all of them then ? Thanks anyway Zoe :)

Zoe You might find it cheaper to use family relatives than 1837 cos its fully transcribed from 1866 to 1920 Lou

Hi Roy in Doncaster, I am nearby in Sheffield. Percy was born between 1881 & 1883. On the 1891 census he was 8 years old, on 1901 he was 20 years old and he died in died in 1867 aged 85 years. He is not in 1882 on the 1837 website. He was born in Sheffield, Ecclesall Bierlow district. Many Thanks Zoe :))

Can't understand that! 1837 is now indexed with given name and surname, it's rare to get more than one page per quarter to look at.

Zoe Report 12 Apr 2005 23:19

Hi Brian, Yeah, each time I put in a name it just give me page with those with the surname. I wasn't sure if that was correct I have spent a small fortune. Ah the pleasures of family research, lol Thanks Zoe :)

Zoe, FreeBMD is complete for 1883 and for Dec qtr 1881. I just checked 1882. I suggest you look at June and September qtrs for 1881. Crista

Zoe, Have you looked under Marshall? His parents married Dec 1882 and he might have been born before that. Crista

He's also an only child. Could be he was adopted? Crista

Hi Crista I did suggest to Zoe the other day that he may have been illegitimate given the timing of the parents marriage but she checked under Marshall (I think) and couldn't see him. Not unless Mum had been married before too and for some reason didn't give him Marshall but her original name, whatever that may have been! Lou

Hi Lou, Just checked and Percy's dad was married to Mary Hannah Cousins before and she died Jun 1881. If she died in childbirth it could be they never got around to registering Percy. Crista

Hi Crista Very possibly although it was compulsary by then. Wonder if he was registered much later, i.e. after Mr Carlton's marriage to Mary Ann Marshall and Zoe needs to extend her search into 1884 Is that complete on freebmd? Lou

Crista

Crista Report 12 Apr 2005 23:54

Hi Lou, 1884 is 80% complete for all quarters so she could try looking there. Crista
