Elaine - I wasn't questioning the marriage you'd found. From FR home page QUOTE The site includes all known Civil Registration Index images from 1866 to 1983. Also there is a fully searchable database for Births, Marriages and Deaths from 1866 to 1920 as well as 1984 to 2002 ENDQUOTE 1866-1920 is searchable by specific name, 1921 onwards returns results the same was as 1837online - the name you're after may be on the page. What I'm getting at is that if it is such an unusual surname - which it seems to be - how come there isn't a english/welsh birth which ties in datewise with the name of the marriage you found? Were they born as something else or has the name gillas been entered as something which sounds the same - gillers for example. Right now it looks as if someone married who was never born !!!
