Would it be possible for you to do a look-up in the 1851 Lanarkshire index for an Arthur HAWTHORN(E).?? He was born in 1836 so would be about 15 years old. His parents would be another Arthur HAWTHORN(E) and either a Christina or Margaret. Any information would be great. Thank you Sally

Hi Michelle, Many thanks for the information on the Colburn and Ross families in Edinburgh. I notice that Colburn has been transcribed as Colborn, but it is definitely my family, because of the ages and birthplaces of Johns' parents. It also looks as if it could very well be my Ross family. I don't know exactly when Margarets' father, John was born, but i know that his father was named James, which with the old Scottish way of naming children would make sense for his eldest son to be called James. Many thanks once again, your help is really appreciated, regards Norman.

Hi Michelle, On the 1851 census could you please check: Patrick BRAY c1844 (age 18 at 1862 marriage) parents Patrick and Mary. He was born in Ireland; trying to get information as to where in Ireland. Hoping he was in Scotland by '51. Annie MCKENNA c1846 (age 16 at 1862 marriage) parents Bernard and Rose. Born in Ireland; as above. James MILLER c1837 parents James and Elizabeth; trying to find area of birth so I can check parish registers. Jane BUCHANAN c1838 parents Thomas and Janet; as above. Could you please include anyone with same surname on the page. Thanks. Margaret

James Here is a possible for Margaret and young Robert, Margaret is listed as Head but not as a widow - as married so her husband is sway from home which would fit with you saying they immigrated to Canada that year, maybe Peter was on board ship to Canada at the time of the census and sent for Margaret and kids later on. There were no Peter Roll's anywhere else in Scotland on their own and I checked England and Wales just in case! Margaret Hi No luck with Patrick Bray infact no Bray's at all born in Ireland. The same for Annie Mckenna. I have a James Miller and family but no Elizabeth but that could be either she was away from home that night or James her husband was a Widow. Better luck with Buchanan's I think this could be the right family!!
