Hi Michelle, sorry but I have only just grasped how these 'threads' work and have only just found your reply to mine. I have now narrowed my search down to one family ie Robert and Janet (nee Allan) Hamilton and their children Jane (or Jean or Janet) Hamilton born Jan 1837 in Stonehouse, Lanark and son William Hamilton born March 1839 in Stonehouse. I think the parents Robert & Janet may have been born in Glasgow. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanX from Sheila

Hi again Michelle. Thankyou so much for the info on Dicksons. The information is correct as it matches up with what i have from IGI. Wife Helen and some of the children are not on the census but it basically confirms the right family. Helen must have passed on pre 1851(no wonder after having 13 children).As for us being related,we could very well be related. I have traced mine back(not all confirmed)to approx 1736. All of them coming from Durham-England,Cambusnethen,Hamilton,Lesmahagow and Stonehouse.If you have any there please get back in touch. Regards Alyson

Michelle, Thanks for looking up Slimon in Lesmahagow. Was positive I would find John Slimon and wife Marion (grt grandparents x 4) or their son Dr Robert Slimon and his wife Jane who were on cencus Lesmahagow 1881. Robert was a Doctor there too and also Crossford. Possibly they could be found in one of the surrounding areas. Thanks anyway Elaine

Ally G Hi - no Andrew Dickson listed either living in cambusnethan or born in Cambusnethan. Do you have any other family members I could try to locate him from, there are two Andrew Dickson's one aged 6 born in Hamilton living in Hamilton & Symington and the other is aged 8 born in Hamilton but living in Dalziel. There are 10 other Dickson's living in Cambusnethan and 5 of those were born in Cambusnethan.
