Shan Report 7 Jul 2004 19:37

Hi again Sammy Emily's maiden name was Matkin we think but in 1971 She was listed as emily Browning living with Dad James and brother James but on the census it has been transcribed as Watkins Shan

Jools Report 7 Jul 2004 19:45

Shan - now you ARE confusing my brain cell ;-))) OK with the bit about her maiden name was Matkin, but if she was on the 1871 census with dad and brother mistranscribed as Watkins are you saying she was Browning and they were watkins???

It's just me & you now Jools (Gawd 'elp us!!) This is what Shan is on about.... 1871 Emily Browning 23 St Pancras, Middlesex, England Daughter St Pancras London James Watkins 56 London, Middlesex, England Head St Pancras London John Watkins 14 St Pancras, Middlesex, England Son St Pancras London Have a look at the image if you have Ancestry (I think you do) It looks to me like Emily is M for MARRIED, what do you think? Popping up to Sainsburys now, I bet you'll have the whole lot sorted by the time I get back :):):):):):):):):):):):)

Sam - I hope you got some divine inspiration while you were at Sainsbury's because I think you and I need some right now LOL. Thanks for the 1871 info - I've had a close look at the image and afraid to say I think it is a W for widow. The letter is written from the top left corner, not the bottom left as the M's are - have a close look using the magnifier and see if you agree. I've tried every combination of sop* with place of birth clerkenwell, holborn, islington, middlesex and london for the ages 10, 11 and 12 and found all sorts of possibilities which have taken me to a dead end (and I daren't even think about James!!!!) At a guess they will both be together somewhere - the question is where. I do wonder if Sophia had any other christin names and she used that instead. Jools

No divine intervention or inspiration Jools, got two summer tops and some thongs though, I'll put one on and see if it helps!!!!!!!!! W it is then you two, I agree that both children ought to be together, and like you Jools I have tried all sorts of Sop* and Bun* and Bin* and Ben* and Jim's. Off for another look now. Sam

Jools and Sammy what wonderful people you are, had to leave and tend the family like you do somtimes, Emily was born Matkin we think, married Browning, he died young, in 1871 Emily was living with Dad and brother James trabnscribed as watkins, on the 27th may of the same year she married my John Bunyan. They over the year's had en load's of kid's and in 1891 James/Jim age 9 and Sophia age 11 were not at home, HELP where were they???????. Sophia married Charles Watson 10th april 1898 Holborn, James /Jim was a fishmonger's assistant age 19 in 1901 living with dad and brother Harry/Henry he was 13,Dad was a widow, and they were living Duncan building's. What i am looking for is where was James and Sophia or variations of name's in 1891. Like you said maybe with granny and grandad and if they are that's where my John James Bunyan snr is.LOL puzzle solved, now find em. Luv You ALL Shan
