I think you need the date of death to start with. Best to get his death certificate as it will also tell you where he died to help narrow it down.

I'm getting really confused! Is this the right Frederick Charles?

Births Sep 1872
MARSH Frederick Charles S. Stoneham 2c 66

The district S. Stoneham is an alternative name for South Stoneham and it is in the county of Hampshire

The above date ties in with what Rebecca said above.

Is this a possible marriage?

Marriages Sep 1902

Marsh Frederick Charles Southampton 2c 1

Do you know if he had any children?

Finally:

Births Jun 1881
MARSH George Henry Southampton 2c 43

Selena

Looks like George was born just after the 1881 census so that is why he is not with his brother Frederick above.

to be sure you really need to buy the birth cert of either Frederick Ernest and/or Robert George. This will give the mother's maiden name.

Possible:

Marriages Mar 1896

EDWARDS Arthur John S. Stoneham 2c 102
Lilley Eliza Rosina S. Stoneham 2c 102
Marsh George S. Stoneham 2c 102
Moody Emily S.Stoneham 2c 102

In your post about Emily you said

"she married william (George not sure which way round)"

You did not mention Robert.

So I looked for a marriage of a George Marsh!

Before I look for Robert's birth, how do you know he was born in 1881?

sorry selena, this has taken me a while to sort with my 2 uncles who could not agree on his name and I was stuck in the middle so I asked someone elae in the family and they said not it was robert and that is who my gramp (one of the twins) was named after, again they said 1881 and they said 2c 43 as a ref. if this is not possible I will have to try something else but it is all rather sad in the fact that all the info was in my gramps 'green box' and someone in the family 'took' it and they have no idea where it is , and it contained everything we need .

jansmith Report 14 Nov 2007 22:25

I think you need to get the marriage index as this might give you his age and should give his fathers name,or send for one of the childrens birth certs to at least confirm the parents names
