All I know about my great grand father is his name was Hubert Hunt, born q3 1886 in Kensington but I believe he was born in Marylebone. He married Elsie Rolfe in Sept 1915.

I am getting nowhere researching. I can't find him on the 1891 or 1901 census. His birth certificate is no help !

Where can I go next? I would appreciate some help!

KeithInFujairah Report 20 Nov 2007 15:37

What were his parents names on the birth certificate?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 20 Nov 2007 15:38

Doesn't his birth certificate give his parents' names?

Paula

Paula Report 20 Nov 2007 15:46

According to the birth certificate his mother's name was Emily Ada Hunt a servant of 6 North Row. He was born in the Kensington Infirmary. There is no father registered.

My grand mother knows nothing more.

Is there a special reason why you think he was born elsewhere?

Do you have his marriage certificate? Are there any clues in the witnesses, i.e. possible siblings?

Any other useful info from marriage cert?

Hi Selena
No I have no clues that he may have been born elsewhere. Just wish I could fill in this gap.
Thanks

The marriage certificate lists his father as Hubert Albert Hunt, a farmer.

Wonder if Hubert Albert was actually Emily's dad (his grandad) and Hubert junior told a bit of a fib?

Hi Paula,
Another possibility is that Emily married and she and Hubert are listed on the censuses under her new husbands name, I have found this happened quite a lot. Have you checked for marriages for Emily??

I had not thought that Hubert Albert may have been the grandfather - hmmm!

Were children put into the Boys Brigade house as they were illigitimate?

Is there a way to cut down the possible Emily Ada Hunt's?

Perhaps because Hubert didn't know who his father was he just used his mother's father's name.

Hi Paula/Selena

I couldn't find Hubert or Emily on the 1891, I tried various combinations - neither could I find a likely Hubert in 1891 to match the one I found in 1901 at the Boys Brigade place, although the only one born in the right sort of area on FreeBMD is the one for which Paula has the birth cert.

Trouble is, unless we can find them together, we have no way of knowing which is the right Emily Hunt.

I'm wondering about this death:
