It has been several months since I have used this site and have found the format quite different.
I hope that I am doing the correct thing by asking for help. So here goes -
I am looking for Philip Domm born abt 1818 in Prussia.
I believe his first wife Christiana by whom he had a daughter died in 1859. They lived in Whitechapel London.
I have no trace of Philip on the 1861,1871 or 1881 census.
But he reappears in 1891 before he died in 1897.
Could anyone help please. Regards Clare

For 1881, try just Philip.....and Musician.........see if anything comes up!

If he's a musician in 1851, then its a coincidence with the 1871 I found.. perhaps they just guessed his age!

GI Jane

GI Jane Report 10 Jan 2008 22:53

Reg - thanks very much for your help - you are so quick I can't keep up.
If Catherine was living with aunt and uncle in 1861 and her mother died in 1859 - I wonder where Philip was during this time?

Have Philip's death certificate and does state he was a musician - sorry should I have mentioned this. Told you it was a long time since I have done this.
He died in Southampton in 1897 - It just interested me where he was in that 20 year gap.

Diane

Diane Report 10 Jan 2008 23:09

Reg - no worries.. I posted that comment before I saw you'd duplicated it.

Clare.. how fascinating,... do you know what sort of musician? There must be stacks in the relevant archives if you could find out who he played for/with??

Diane

Diane Report 10 Jan 2008 23:13

Clare.. have you looked at the 1881?

Theres a tonne of Germany travelling musicians staying in Ulverston, all unnamed, with approximate ages, perhaps that's where he was "on tour". Implies it was a German Band, although he'd become a british subject?
