6) Going back to the marriage she is under the name LAKE......there is a alfred LAKE/ fanny HANSFORD marriage before 1870 so she could have been a widowerwhen she married William Pyefinch but they continue together long after this time so that is not her............can anyone help me out! Is she really a HANSFORD or a LAKE?............and what is happening on the 1891 census?

Stephen

Stephen Report 18 Sep 2009 18:07

this is really hard!!!........seems like there are not many missing links...... but it just doesnt tie in at the moment!!! there seems to be 3 or 4 possible births for fanny Hansford in Bridport.........the MC is abroad so I havent a copy to say who her father was

Fanny Hansford 1848 Apr-May-Jun Dorset
Fanny Hansford 1852 Apr-May-Jun Dorset
Fanny Elizabeth Hansford 1854 Oct-Nov-Dec Dorset

so..........does everyone think the Fanny Lake is not the correct marriage........there seems to be alot of LAKES in Bridport which makes me wonder!!!!!! And what is happening on the 1891 census?

Thats the marriage I found...... Alfred and Fanny Lake carry on in 1881, 1891, 1901 etc etc so its not them!!!!!!!!!!

The christening in Lodgers doesnt tie in with any of the birth records as it was in1844

Stephen

Stephen Report 18 Sep 2009 19:02

IF FANNY AND FRANCES ARE SISTERS.......I CANNOT FIND THEM TOGETHER ON ANY CENSUS UNDER THE NAME HANSFORD.......I THOUGHT MAYBE WILLIAM PYEFINCH MAY HAVE HAD A BROTHER WHO MARRIED A FRANCES BUT IT SAYS SHE WAS BORN BRIDPORT DORSET WHICH TIES IN WITH FANNY/FRANCES .......I'M STUMPED!!

HI SOMERSET GIRL - THATS THE ONE I POSTED PREVIOUSLY.....AND WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES!

Stephen

Stephen Report 18 Sep 2009 19:17

Out of interest Alfred names his first daughter Frances............its making me wonder if Frances and Fanny are the same person........and that it could be an error on the census..............

Stephen

Stephen Report 18 Sep 2009 19:23

oh no somersetgirl..........thats a problem!!!!!!!!!!!! as William was born in Ludlow........but son Alfred was born way earlier!.......Fanny must have been in India for Albert to have been born there so hence I followed the india marriage........who knows - either could actually be right!

VERY INTERESTING..........on ancestry records

Herbert Edward Pyefinch Baptism 10 Jun 1874 William John Pyefinch,Frances Pyefinch Saint John, Woolwich Greenwich

PLEASE CAN ANYONE CHECK THIS ON ANCESTRY - I AM HAVING TROUBLE READING IT! SEARCH FOR HERBERT PYEFINCH IN ENGLAND ONLY - NO COUNTIES 1870-1880......THEN IT WILL COME UP WITH LONDON ENGLAND BIRTHS AND BAPTISMS 1813-1906........YOU CAN VIEW THE ORIGINAL RECORD........WHAT DOES IT SAY NEXT TO FRANCES.....LOOKS LIKE MARY IN BRACKETS TO ME!??? THIS MAY BE ANOTHER CLUE!

So, the 1891 census looks correct...........but why does it say sister in law and william single........how could it be SO wrong?

Selena in South East London

Selena in South East London Report 18 Sep 2009 21:17

Just one other point, it says Francis F - where did middle initial come from?

Stephen

Stephen Report 19 Sep 2009 09:24

Can anyone read and double check the original baptism record on ancestry for me .....PLEASE :o)

with regards the middle initial F.....this could be wrong as Williams middle name is John and there has been errors on some of his census with regards initials.......he is down on that one as William H....when it should be William J

So, ok fanny is a nickname for Frances.....but why on 1891 does it say sister in law????????????

Selena in South East London

Selena in South East London Report 19 Sep 2009 10:04

I was referring to Francis F on the 1891

I have looked at the image Stephen and I really cannot make it out... dratt!!!!

All I can say is that I do NOT think it is Mary. - If you compare it to the rest of the handwriting on the page, the 'lines' of the first letter are too straight for an 'M'. The top of the letter resembles his letter 'H' or even an 'F' but it is too 'blurry' to make it out.

I have stared at it for ages but can't see it. I will have another look later.

Sorry,

Dea x
