Well its a great shame GR in their wisdom dont have a separate board for all these threads worthy of nudging.

Nite all.

So....where is the poster?

Too 'annoyed' to be able to add feedback?

Margaret, with respect people who are new to this aren't aware of the workings on here, therefore it stands to reason that any nudged threads on Page 1 will be useful to them.

I still remember how intimidated I felt when I came on here for the first time, reading postings such as yours.

You may not mean it like that, but I have to say that's how it comes across to me. I hope I'm wrong. :-)

The above deletion was me, because my good self repeated my posting - I say, repeated my posting, lol.

It looks like I will have to admit defeat!

I see perfectly well that a useful thread (and there are lots of them without which I would have been lost myself) should be nudged now and again but some of them consist almost entirely of nudges, several times a day which, along with deleted posts, makes it extremely difficult to locate the point of the thread.

Perhaps some of the more popular threads (with lots of nudges or bookmarks) could become "stickies", and Genes could be persuaded to remove the "nudging" and "deleted" messages?.

Well Margaret, thats what we have all been asking for - either that we have them as stickies or on a separate board or that GR go back to the old system where deletion dont shown - unfortunately they seem unable to comply with any of these reasonable requests.

I cant say that the nudges make it difficult to locate the point of the thread as its normally right at the beginning of same.

May be you could contact GR too.

Margaret - yes, good point; it's a brilliant idea, although as Heather says, GR have been asked about it before.

Personally I think they should have a separate board for new members to read the stickies before they start.

Hi Margaret, apology accepted. It would be useful if other people could delete their nudges and lessen the pages I suppose, but the main point of the thread is on the first page. Any other comments are usually just thanks from those who have found the tips helpful. You really don't have to plough through them all. The odd squeaky toy comment is just a way of communication between nudgers - it helps build up a fellowship. Regards.

First Cynthia - thank you for explaining 'nudges' to me.

See some of us are very newbies on here and don't understand all the lingo and etiquette or the best way to find again what we have looked at before or how to save it so we can locate it again.

I don't know what stickies are and how do you make something a sticky? Is there a thread that explains these and other basic terms?

Glen In Tinsel Knickers

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 25 Aug 2008 20:15

The main drawback to sticky threads is the overuse they get on other sites.

If half a dozen threads are made a sticky then it takes up a fair chunk of the opening page of threads, a major drawback of the way the boards are used is that if a thread dissappears of page 1 then folks don't tend to see them (or don't look).

The "getting started" threads on the homepage answer a lot of the more basic questions but are underused as it is, the sticky threads get ignored on other sites and it would be little different here that i can see.

It isn't a case of how the sites can be laid out, more a case of the misuse of the facilities that are offered and poor board ettiquette a lot of the time.

Thank you for the info Christine - Glen I must be blind or stupid as I can't see anything about 'getting started' on the homepage - where is it please?
