what is confusing?

You could purchase the cert from GRO

If there is no father named on the birth cert you cannot go further back with that line.

I know when I saw my gt grandmothers marriage cert and she named an Edward Wilkinson as her father...took me ages to trace her and then find she had been illigitimate and Edward Wilkinson was just a made up name
