Hiya all,

Wonder if someone can help?

I am trying to follow John BRADFORD born 27th November 1856 in Cambridge, St Andrew The Less Parish, using the census records.

I have him at home with his parents and family in Cambridge in 1861, but cannot find him in the GR 1871 census records.

However he appears to be shown on the Ancestry 1871 census records, but unfotunately I do not have access.

Can anyone tell me why he might appear on one set of records but not on the other? And would someone be kind enough to let me know the details of the Ancestry entry?

Thanks in advance........

Hi Xavier,

I have the same situation with GR and the census returns but mine were on GR in 2009 and then when GR changed the source of their records my ancestors disappeared. When I was originally searching for them I could only find the family in the 1861 census on GR and Ancestry.

I have tried numerous times to get GR to solve this issue but I can't supply them with the address they were living at because no street address is on the census image. I have supplied them with the page number etc but GR can't find them unless they have the street address.

Once more GR members do the trick...! Many thanks for all the new leads....

Chris Ho....correct baptism I think thanks, father and mothers name correct but address on birth certificate is Doric Street not Gothic Street.....simple error perhaps...?

All I have to do now is decide which John BRADFORD in the 1881 census is the right one as none of them are quite right with the birth date...........!

Doesn't it get sad searching sometimes :-(

I traced John Bradford b1856 through to the 1891 census living in Islington with his wife Emma, son John (Recorded as 4 years old when he was actually 11), and daughter Clara aged 8.

When I searched the 1901 census I couldn't find them again........

So I searched death records and found poor Emma his wife died Islington 1898 aged 37, and then his daughter Clara died Islington 1900 aged 17.........

Still searching for what happened to John and his son........

Many thanks one and all again.........Silversmith sounds very grand............!!?

Would love this to be the right family (Long lost great grandad and grandparents) but...always a but isn't there........

Just a few years later in 1914 John BRADFORD b1856 was being supported by Bedford Poor Law Union ....along with his 'wife' and three children under 4 (One of them my father).....who they abandoned in 1918 and promptly vanish from available records never to be heard of again.....!

Would have thought a silversmiths salary might have kept them all afloat but who knows........

Possibly her in 1911. Daisy looks like John Thomas's sister Xavier with the bus conductor connection?
