They are wings above the breast pocket, also if you enlarge and look in the middle left shoulder you can see a button from the cap which would have been through the epaulet,You can makee out the cap outline.

It looks like a No1 uniform with which a white belt could be worn.not 100% but thought a white belt usually was worn by a rank.?

Pity the badge cant be clear on the top sleeve.

My dad had to get permission to be marrid in his RAF uniform.

He also has medal ribbons, though too fuzzy to see what they are.

This link takes you to a page of images -they either of or based on 1940's wedding dresses. There are links at the top to images of dresses in other decades.

Weren't clothes still on ration? Her Maj married 1947 and was the greatful recipient of donated clothing ration coupons. Internet sources said it ended in Mar 1949.

It looks like a forties wedding to me . I was a bridesmaid in 1948 and the bride had one of those big bridal bouquets. The chap looks like RAF to me too

It looks like a RAF good conduct stripe chevron, point up, lower left sleeve issued from 1927. 1 stripe was issued for three years good service.

I thought 1940's too Ann. You could be right about the RAF......I'm not too sure about uniforms.

Thank you that gives me somewhere to start

KathleenBell Report 13 Sep 2015 00:38

Well I'd definitely say it is an army uniform and he looks like he is a corporal (one stripe on his arm). Because he hasn't got his cap on with a cap badge there is nothing to show which regiment he was in.

Sorry, no. For some reason it is taking me to my own keepsafe.

Look at the link DetEcTive has given and it should be the same wording as that only with different numbers at the end.

Make sure you click on the photo first to highlight it. This should bring up the correct link.

You can't, but you can post the url (the web address shown in your browser bar)

First of all, make sure that you have selected 'shared with everyone' on the right-hand side of the photo page. Then copy the url and paste it onto the thread. That way anyone wishing to look at your photo can click on the link and be able to view.

eg - the following is to one of my previous avatars. Try it and see

When you have the photo on your screen copy the address that is showing in your browser. It will be something like this:-

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/details/ (with numbers at the end).

Make sure you have the photo marked as "shared with everyone"
