I would imagine a coroner's inquest would have been held. Anybody know where such records would have been kept? |

If you go to the Birmingham Local studies and History site you will see that their library holds a lot of newspapers. Of course, you'll need a date to find a report, but the Alfred who died in 1914 looks so likely I think it would be worth searching the third quarter. Do you live in reasonable distance? Hi everyone thanks for your great tips and information. I dont live far from Birmingham so I will certainly go and have a look at the record office see if I can find it in a newspaper. I think I will email them today and see what I can find out. Alfred looks very promising I'm excited! |

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP AND ADVICE RECEIVED THE OTHER EVENING FROM ALL THE GENES FRIENDS. I HAVE FOUND MY GRANDAD'S SIBLING, CONFIRMED AS ALFRED HADLEY. WENT TO THE BIRMINGHAM ARCHIVES AND READ THE CORONERS REPORT, CONFIRMED DEATH FROM SHOCK OF BURNS FROM FALLING INTO THE RICE PUDDING THAT WAS LEFT ON THE FLOOR WHILST TURNING THE MEAT IN THE OVEN. THIS HAS SOLVED AND CONFIRMED A FAMILY STORY, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THIS CHILD NOW HAS A NAME. A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO BRENDA FOR THE BRILL INFO SHE GAVE ME. |

Charlotte Glad you have found the right one - but how very sad that your Grandfather blamed himself (or anyone else blamed him). Only a child himself, he could hardly have been expected to wonder if there was a hot rice pudding on the floor! If I had been the child's mother, I know who I would have been blaming.... OC |
