Dragonfly - Please don't stop posting, I am aware that for some people there is a very good reason for posting in capitals and I would hate for you to stop.... You have a genuine reason for this and I would hate for my post to have upset you in anyway. Jim - If I had posted this in General I would probably have been stoned. Most of the culprits are there! (!LOL!) Also, it was in response to a post on this board that prompted me. Lol - I'm afraid hands up I use this one. I hate text speak in general, but I frequent many internet forums and find this a way of lightening the tone when posting something that could be deemed as offensive. Or as a simple laugh as an alternative to a smiley. Unfortunately, not everyone gets irony like some of us do! Also - I have all these pet hates, but yes there are probably times when I do one or more of them! I like the way this thread has turned into a lighthearted moan and groan to be honest! It's interesting to see what winds us up. On the phone line at work the other day, I had to spell something and said 'aitch' he said pardon, I repeated 'aitch, you know, like at the start of house' 'Oh' he said. 'you mean haitch'. GRRRRR! No I don't, I mean 'aitch'! Although it's is a 'hhh' sound, the letter's name is AITCH. Or maybe I'm completely wrong? Oh dear. I completely agree with the comments on marking children's work. I am a primary school teacher and often get told to ignore certain spelling mistakes as that wasn't the main focus of the lesson (Yes, even in the English lessons). I can see that looking at a page full of red marks may give children a negative feeling, but it never did me any harm! Or my parents/grandparents etc! And we can all spell! Oh dear, I just used 'and' at the start of a sentence. Hmmm, going to stop typing now! Laura |

For most people, text in capitals is actually hard to read, this is not an opinion but a proven scientific fact. This is why road signs are n Mixed Text, not capitals However, if certain people do have difficulties then their needs need to be recognised and accommodated. It is those who just can't be a..sed who need to change and get their act in gear. . |

i am a terrible writer ,i am always going from lower case to upper case,i also do it when i am writing,my gramma is not very good,i don't write letters very much ,but if i do i have to do severla drafts before it is right in my eyes, then my wife goes over it ,i then have to do it all again.by the way i do know that i should be a capital, but if i change caps lock i will normally write a paragraph before i realise caps are still on,i am just not a natural scribe.kev |

Matthew - I used to go to school with two girls who would insist on actually writing 'somethink, everythink, anythink' instead of the proper way! Laura |
