OC you MUST remove Norton or the 2 together will cause you probs. Click on START at bottom LH corner, Click on Control panel Find 'Add or Remove programs' Click on and search list for NORTON Click ONCE on it to highlight it You will see on RHS ..... change/remove Click on that and then confirm you want to remove the Norton You will then have to restart your computer to make sure all the bits of it have been removed. Kat Just because it says it expires it doesn't mean they will remove it from your computer, anyway they will maybe give you a few more days free to think about it.

When you are absolutely sure that these vermins are gone, it is VITAL that you reboot the computer. When you are back into XP, delete the following folders manually - if they don’t exist that’s fine: c:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus c:\Program Files\Norton c:\Program Files\Symantec c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared Do a SHIFT DELETE if possible, the folders don’t go into your Recycle Bin in that case, so they are gone from your computer for sure. After the above, I usually clean the Windows Registry for any entries that are lying around stray. Get a Registry Cleaner like HoverDesk’s RegSeeker (zipped download) and use the “Clean the Registry” option. Once that is done and you have SELECTED ALL and deleted the stray items, reboot again. To be sure. Norton should be gone when your machine is back up. Hi I have been following this have removed Norton Internet Security, uninstalled LiveReg and LiveUpdate should I remove Norton WMI Update too?

I think you will find you need to remove every bit of it if you are going to use another anti virus

I have had some problems but never associated it with the AV progs maybe this will enhance PC now

OC has put both on Val but it shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you get all of Norton Off. If you're worried about having 2 on together and it MIGHT have caused a problem, just remove both and start all over again I ran with 2 last year by mistake and had no probs but you never know

AVG is excelent! Also try.... 'go back' Google it. If you do get a nasty....just 'go back' to the day before you got it....SORTED! Gerri

I use Avast, thats free as well you just need to register. I used to use AVG but found Avast more easier to configure as you can turn on/off the seperate shields.

Do you use Broadband because if you do depends on the monthly amount you pay but you can down load Norton for Free . If you use Bt its worth checking it out. Gwen

hi all well i have just downloaded the free trial for McAfee and you have all made we worry. My computor has been sluggish and acting daft lately so now after reading about this free agv7 do you think i should remove McAfee and install agv7 instead?? Sylvia

I got McAfee on a free trial with my Dell laptop, and it was okay, but it made my laptop really slow. I got AVG, when I started having problems with McAfee, I couldn't update McAfee and soon got fed up with it. I uninstalled McAfee, got AVG and Zone Alarms Firewall (both free), now I have no probs and computer is no longer slow. My only regret is I wish I'd done it sooner, AVG picked up on stuff McAfee virus scan didn't.
