I found this site about a year ago and entered my entire tree [at that time] but like many of your was a bit concerned about putting my email address, although I did on a couple. One thing I found was with the amount of entries I put for Brighton, it took a really long time to get Brighton up [sadly our pc is old & slow]. I think they should have called it Ancestral towns & villages, as some people probably wouldn't look on it if their ancesters all came from large towns. Josie

I have just visited and added a couple of relatives. It does not seem to matter if you don't know many of the details. There were only a couple of entries in each village. I found the site quite fast compared with G.R. The main problem I have is that my ancesters villages seem to be too small to be on the site. Is there any way you can add villages?

Anne - I've tried to add a couple of villages, you click on the contact button if I remember right, but they have never come up. And yes it is fast if you are looking at a village or town with only a few entries on but I DARE you to look at BRIGHTON Sussex, that is a snail on my pc!! JOsie

yes, i thought the idea was very good, and would have loved to have seen it flourish.Imagine being in contact with direct descendants of the same family or neighbours even, swopping stories collated,as if youre bringing the village back to life again. Sadly,I'm the sole member of about 3 villages :-((

After seeing this thread, i thought i better add a bit more to it. It looks like people are slowly starting to add to it now. Let's hope this thread will prompt more people to add their own. Also if you have found a good site regarding one of the villages, why not add it to the NOTES section at the bottom for others to see. Sandra

I think it's a great site, but personally I don't like the data fields. It would be fine if we all precisely knew when our ancestors arrived and left the places, but few of us do. I guess I hate leaving so many blanks! LOL I had an base born ancestor by the name of Fountain Stevens. Unusual first name, eh? What should I find on Ancestral Villages but a family by the name of Fountain living in the same place at the same time. I now suspect he was named after his father. Without that website I would never have had a clue. Sharon

Can somebody please tell me how to change my E-mail address on Ancestral-villages, since I have three messages posted on there. I contacted the site two weeks ago asking for help but have not had a reply to date. Thank you. Elizabeth

I've just spent the last 45 minutes trying to get past the registration board. I got a email back saying that my details had been received and to click on a link - I tried every link nothing worked so I've given up. No wonder there's not many messages if it takes this long to get into the site. 4.10 I've finally managed to post two villages - let's wait and see.

I have also tried registering, and no email has arrived yet. Maybe with all this promotion we have jammed their servers haha! T x

I just found my registration mail, it was in my bulk mail folder along with all the spam I get! Thought I would tell you, if you are still waiting for yours. T x

LindaG Report 4 Apr 2006 11:15

I think the big problem is that there's no bulk load facility. You need time to chip away at this. I have started to put people up, but it is slow going typing everything out from scratch. If you don't get the email, check your bulk/spam folder! Lx
