Sue thank you so much, the 'genealogics' site is brilliant, and yes I've been able to go back several generations from Alfred the Great. Exciting to say the least.

Got back to just before 1600 with a couple of branches, by having family tree weekends and stopping overnight for a couple of days in different record offices, and of course help from relatives I found on here too. Been doing this for about 5 or 6 years now, from just before things came available on the internet.

Must admit there are a family a few generations back, neighbours from hell, definitely wouldnt have liked to live anywhere near them. Fined and imprisoned for all sorts of things lol.

Sir William Douglas of Cavers (it looks as if several had that name one after the other) was a descendant of the Bruce family and the early kings of Scotland.
