Hi all,

Talking of the Irish lilt Nicky, another lovely film "Hear my Song" about the great Irish singer Josef Locke,one of my dad's favourites. He often recalled how he and my mum went to see him at Finsburry Park Empire...before I was born...so shows how long ago that was!!! Dad loved that film and could watch it atleast a couple of times a month...I still have the video but can't watch it, makes me so sad. Great parts played by Adrian Dunbar, Nead Beatty and Tara Fitzgerald with her smashing 'Gin and fags voice'! Not forgetting my dad's love interest in the film Shirley Anne Field.

Hope things are still on course with the job Ed.

Thank's for the nudge Elizabeth...wonder wher everyone's gone? We're all too hot with this weather I expect and out and about...come the winter our thread will be buzzing again, as we all sit in front of the telly all cosey watching old films and discussing them on here!!

As far as I understand it most of my friends who've been out and about have been bitten by mossies etc. Myself,Aaprt from work seem to spend most of my time indoors am Ok!

Yes i`m still around, OH has had the week off this week. { I get all the school holidays off anyway} and we`ve been out and about and catching up with jobs in the home etc....... have watched a bit of telly, but certainly no films which is why I havn`t added to the thread,

Youngest daughter is up in your neck of the woods next week Pam, at an outdoor centre called Hillside at Sheringham, shes going by coach, being picked up on in London so won`t be up your way myself, .....pity i could have popped in for a cuppa and a chat......

Weather wise we`ve had yet another grey/dull dreary day here ...again...August { and most of July} has been a real wash out, such a pity as it all started so well back in April. ....

I may try and get up to Winchester Records Office next week ,as I am child free all week, and OH is back at work, I`m hoping to find 5x gr grandfathers baptism in Cheriton Hants in 1727, I have his wife and 2 children { info from a settlement order} and hoping his parents married there and even born there themselves, that would be great to get back another whole generation...the surname is Keemish and that wasn`t a very common name, so fingers crossed.

Ed , hows things progressing ? Have you started the new job yet?

Patricia...bitten by Mossies????...where do you live? here on the south coast its more like umbrella weather than mossie spray weather........ Hav`nt had to water all my pots for at least 4or 5 weeks.....that says it all really....

Hi Nicky et al,

No I've not started the new job yet; I have to wait for my security clearance to go through - it can take anything between one and two months - hopefully they'll try and get it done quickly so I can start working again.

So in the meantime I've been decorating and doing those jobs around the house and garden that have been put off until I knew I could spend the money!

Still studying in preparation for the new role - the plan being that by walking into the job with a couple of exams under my belt it will show them the type of person I am.

Watching a film at the moment called Tactical Assault with Rutger Hauer. It's about an air force pilot who is fighting for his life at the hands of a former Gulf War colleauge who is out for revenege.

So still the eternal scholar hey Ed!! , at least your getting time off in the summer rather than winter though, and I`m sure your OH is delighted to be getting all those jobs done that have been niggling her for ages, and with it being school holidays its always good to have time off with the kids......make the most of it, once they get older you only see them for about 5 minutes at a time, and have to catch them as they run in or out of the front door... with a "can`t stop i`m meeting so and so, running late already...."

Afraid I was fast asleep when you were up watching your film last night Ed.....and OH was watching our west Ham game again on sky...Good result for the gooners though...

Hi Nicky went up to Cromer and Sherringham today would you believe!!

We had a lovely day actually, had a stroll along the beach at Cromer and a cuppa and then headed up to Sherringham, got home about 6.30....so should sleep well with all that sea air. Think the weather's going to be good for next week in this are, so your girl will have a lovely time.

I bought a black and white video of "Serious Charge", made in the 1950's.

Anthony Qualye plays a vicar who is falsely accused of molesting an older teenage boy, who is a troublemaker.

It shows how people send poisonouse pen letters
and cause problems.

The film is resolved by when the village realise
the vicar is totally innocent.

It also deals with teenage pregnancy and youth problems.

The film is not explicit in any way but is still a powerful film.

Cliff Richard plays a delinquent!

Elizabeth that film sounds a good one, I've not seen it though. Anthony Qualyle was an exellent actor and very underated i think. Remember him in The Guns of Navarone? he played a good part in that. When my son was younger the bit in that film where the Germans fire out from the cliff with the huge guns used to really frighten him, when we've spoke about it now he''s older he reckoned it wasn't the sound of the guns that frightened him it was, 'the look' of them...strange isn't it what can scare youngsters.

I will look out for that film though, a film doesn't have to be 'in your face' to have a powerful effect always does it.

Pretty Woman- Julia Roberts brilliant, & love Richard Gere-what a sugar daddy!
Shirley Valentine- What woman doesn't sympathise/empathise with her.
The Quiet Man-my favourite John Wayne film. Him & Maureen O'Hara really rub sparks off each other. Remember the bit when the Vicar has almost caught the fish at long last, & then has to leave it to see the fight.
The Shawshank Redemption-Brilliant actors, very clever story.
The Birdcage-Robin Williams & Gene Hackman-really funny, Robin William is a gay night club owner trying to act straight when his sons' future in-laws call. His partner,Nathan Lane, dresses up as Mum to greet strait laced Gene Hackman. Hilarious.

Can't remember the name of the one with Richard Attenborough in -playing Santa but only the little girl believes in him-is it Miracle on 34th street??

Welcome to the thread Sandy and hope you visit again...we've been going since last Christmas and from time to time it does go a bit quiet on here...but we keep going!

have just purchased Sunset Boulevard on E Bay...wonderful film. I remember first seeing it as a kid and Gloria Swanson scared me a bit!!

This Happy Breed is always a joy to watch

Hi Roy, I bought the DVD just the other night of Sunset Boulevard and so it may turn up today hopfully...but haven't seen the film in years, it's one of the classics and they don't show it very often on the telly do they. It was you mentioning it Roy that made me seek it out on E Bay. William Holden was a handsome chap in his youth, shame the drink got to him in latter years...i believe he died through drink and when they found him he was all alone and had been dead several days, very sad.

Yes David, do you mean This Happy Breed...if it's the one I'm thinking of it is a good film.
