took my dad to hospital today for his hip replacement...seems they have found a prob with his heart which will be dangerous for surgery.....but there are few options...he can't walk again or he may die on the operating table...he's 80 and some may say he's a good age......but he's my DAD...i'm feeling so teary

Sorry to hear your dad has had setbacks to his surgery, but at least they are talking about there being options. Try to be optimistic, which I know is hard when it is your dad and try to keep his spirits up too.

Best wishes xx

My mother-in-law needed surgery for a broken hip at age 87 and we were told her heart was very bad and she may not make it. She came through with flying colours. I hope your Dad goes ok also.

Alison

Have they discussed an epidural + light sedation? That seems to be the a common alternative to a deep anesthetic.

hope all works out well.

It's very hard for you at the moment, but if you could speak to his surgeon and ask what other options they will consider for the anaesthetic.
Would they be able to give him medication for his heart and then carry out the surgery?
Loads of (((hugs))) to you and your dad, fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

One of my patients husband had the same trouble and is around the same age. They gave him medication for his heart and then he had the op.
He is delighted with the results and wants the other hip done now.

Sending you a big (((hug))) and positive thoughts

AW Girl from Oz...... loads of ((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))) for you and your dad.... I am sure that there will be something they can give him to help with his heart problem... and then an epidural or similar for the hip... I am sure that someone on the boards had an epidural for their hip surgery.

Good luck, stay positive... plaster a smile on your face, glue it in place, and before you know it, you'll start to feel better and the smile will be for real... it does work, I promise you! That will relax your dad, too........

Love

Daff xxxx
