I value constructive criticism. You get so used to a piece of your own work and can't see the possible problems in it. As long as it is done gently, with (as people have said) a possible solution offered it hopefully will be received in the right way and be totally acceptable.

I have worked with designers for years, and they can be the biggest 'owners' of their work, however, should you come up with a way which is better they will totally back down and accept the offered suggestion, as they want the best solution and end result at the end of the day for their work. :)

LOL BC... reminds me of my mum saying that when she was dressed up to the nines to go out, my nan would say 'you look alright' ...damned with faint praise ;)

There you are, that underscore causes problems, lol

it looks like a space, when it's not. I've got on in my email, so I know what people do in error.

Now you've sorted it, it should be ok from now on.

Ann, I agree with you.

I know that the reason I joined this group is that I want to improve - but if someone says something faintly derogatorily, as happened a few weeks ago, I am really hurt. But I know I need to hear these things and I know I need to become tougher! And take on board the comments and learn from them.

I haven't dropped out because I love to write and I want to be helped. I think we should be as honest as possible with each other because I for one need practice at being criticised.

I don't blame my critic, it's what I need to hear, and I so need to get used to this!

I hope that wasn't me Helen, I certainly dont' do it to upset anyone, and I'd be mortified if I thought for one minute I had reduced someone's confidence because of something I'd said.

I do try to follow up with what could be done instead, or to improve.

TeresaW Report 21 Mar 2010 21:46

Phew! Thank goodness for that...

There's criticism, and there's constructive criticism. If it helps its all good.

s***s law means it was probably me hoist with my own petard but I do hope not. But it is sort of like when people criticize our children, even when we know we are in the wrong isn't it?

But I know, even if I think I don't agree with the criticism I go back and look and try and change it.

I do know I tend to write more than I should and am trying to precis the last lot. However All the fun of the fair is not for publication so I leave that as it is. I will go on writing it, please if you want to follow the story let me know and I will go on sending it to you, but it wont now be part of my exercises. I will send other pieces for that so ATFOTF would be extra. Please say if you want to read it.

Helen in Kent Report 21 Mar 2010 22:23

Ann, I for one look forward to the latest news, please don't stop sending to me!

You are right, it is like we are submitting our children for inspection, lol, but it needs to be done, because we are writers!!!!!!

PS have you noticed how quiet it has become on this thread? Think i will go to bed! Night night. xxx

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Mar 2010 22:36
