Rolling Stones, twice in one weekend, 1971 or 72 or something. Toronto and then Montreal.

Toronto, 8th row centre seats on the floor of Maple Leaf Gardens, courtesy of my friend the rich kid who had pals on the Gardens board of governors from boarding school days. Never beat that.

Another good one much more recently was John Prine at a local folk festival. I'd broken my foot and was leaning on the snow fence (yes, we use snow fence in August for crowd control) off to the side of the stage. A sympathetic volunteer let us through the fence to sit on the grass just a few feet to the side of the stage. He does a great show, and being right up there was huge fun too.

Had forgot the Furey's and Dubliners, my Dad used to drag me along as a kid as no one else would go with him !!
Actually quite like some of the music now used to hate it then.

Well, going back a bit:
the Nashville Teens (of "Tobacco Road" fame) -and they were good live at a local venue!
Buddy Rich (great jazz drummer) - an absolutely fab concert, that was!

In reverse order of age

The Walker Brothers
Don Partridge - a surprisingly good show
David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust tour, Aladdin Sane tour)
The Stones (ok, not quite, but they played St James Park and I lived around the corner, so may as well have been there - a bloody good night out in the garden was had by all)
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown (rubbish) and supporting act Python Lee Jackson (more Rod later)
The Police
Van Morrison
Leonard Cohen - several times
Jules Holland
Rod Stewart
Paulo Nutini
Stereophonics
Radiohead
The Prodigy
Maximo Park
Neil Young

I'd also love to see Robbie live, and I wish I'd managed to see Frank Sinatra

Off to the IoW festival again this year - and Florence and the Machine are playing. That'll be worth watching.

Apologies, Hayley

I know you addressed your post to Mildred, but ......

David Bowie tours weren't to be missed.

I was at the Ziggy Stardust concert and again at the Aladin Sane tour. This was my favourite.......... "don't lean on me, man, cos you can't afford the ticket. I'm back in Suffragette City"

So many good memories!

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 21 Feb 2010 22:15

Maz, we saw Hot Chocolate in Ipswich...about 1977 I think, they really were fantastic, better than recorded. Everyone was up dancing, clapping, singing, and although it was a small theatre, it was as good an atmosphere as any.
