Anyone like these series?

Tonight he forms a choir with military wives from North Devon. All, I think, with husbands in Afghanistan. BBC2 9pm.

Ann,I think Gareth is wonderful the way he turns around the belief in peoples abilities.A very good musician too.
Makes reality shows have credibility.

Shall have to record The Jury but find it very annoying when they put on a series over 5 days.

Gareth is such a good choir master. Really good to see how he has brought all these women together from all the different Services and how they feel less isolated because of the choir.

Another great effort from Gareth, who I found out just a while ago, did Drama at our local Uni some years ago. He is married now with a baby daughter, I bet he's a lovely Dad as he is so good with all those he meets and encourages to sing.

Must admit the song they sang at Pannier Market? got me a bit weepy, they did very well. Look forward to the rest of the series.

He never disappoints.could do with more teachers like him.He has patience and even with the boy's school series that wasn't really music orientated he had fresh ideas all the time....and he never gives up.

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 8 Nov 2011 21:26

I look forward to the rest of this series.

He has seemed to manage to bridge the gaps between ranks and regiments, so that the women have more support too in their daily lives.

Gwyn

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Nov 2011 22:22

Not just regiments Gwynne, he has wives there of men from all the services, unusual for Army, Navy, R Marine and Air force wives to be all together isn't it?. As one of them remarked, normally they would all be in their little groups. It is easy to forget that not everyone knows how isolating some of these married quarters can be and how insular.

He has received some awards but I reckon he needs a medal from the Queen for all he has done to get people together.

2007: BAFTA Television Award - Best Feature (The Choir)
2009: BAFTA Television Award - Best Feature (The Choir: Boys Don't Sing)
2009: Broadcast Award — Best Popular Factual Programme Winner (The Choir: Boys Don't Sing)
2010: 36th BPG Television and Radio Awards — Best TV Performer in a Non-acting Role & best Factual Entertainment show (The Choir)[1]

2010: Freedom of the City of London

Missed it, will have to look at iplayer. Has the choir finished then, was it a one off??

He really does deserve those awards, brilliant, he's so good with everyone, brings out the best in them all, wish he could work with a member of my family!!

AnninGlos Report 13 Nov 2011 12:45

Watched the bit we missed on IPlayer this morning and yes the choir were great, but a lot bigger than the one we saw in last weeks programme. It is a shame that we didn't see the whole of the choir building up before the final performance as it took something away from it really. I suspect they didn't want to film it until the men had returned home. They returned 2 weeks ago.

the girl who sang solo was amazing and at first she didn't want top sing on her own at all. But all those tattoos!!!!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 13 Nov 2011 15:57

Yes, we wondered what had happened to the other soloist, but Gareth really wanted that one to sing solo right from the start, he said she had an amazing voice.
