Joy, the OH put in 56 seeds down the allotment about a month ago, and all but 1 have germinated. I will be knee deep in them, when it is picking time. Set my tomato seeds in kitchen window sill, about 24th March, and they are over an inch high, and ready to produce their first pair of true leaves.
Aint it nice when you start to see seeds come through.

At last we have rain (but why Easter weekend) and we really did need it as we haven't had any for weeks one of my water butts is already empty.

JoyBoroAngel and Julia Mmmmmmmm broad beans, delicious in a salad when they are very young.

StrayKitten don't worry I'll bet by next week you'll see your radish, lettuce, beans and more showing signs of life

Merlin I have read about the grafted tomatoes, they sound pretty good but a tad expensive

Lorraine your doing well runner beans already up the canes are they in your tunnel

yes lesley i let them out if the sun is shining and back in at night, i suppose they can stay out once the danger of frost has gone.

sadley the frost had my peach blossom, guess it will harden for next spring. xx

badger Report 9 Apr 2012 09:04

morning all ,wow what a chilly weekend with no forays outside with my perishing sniffles, but it looks like today i may at least get out to put my Red Baron onions into the boxes, the other onions i will pick up from the disabled nursury on the way home from the sons.
Bummer about the loss of your peach blooms Lorr' ,but at least the tree is still hanging in there, maybe by next year there will be a better start to the growing season.
You can get your Broad bean off to a fling start ,in the open yet ,if you plant an early crop in late October,so that they show their heads before Christmas they usually harden off with the winter and shoot away in early March.ideal for the Midlands and the South :-).
It looks like i may have been lucky with the two trees in bloom ,no sign of the dreaded drop ,so i may have gotten away with it .
Hope everyone is having a great Easter ,and managing to relax a little ,even those poor people who are working over the holidays :-D.Fred.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Apr 2012 13:06

Yes stop worrying Stray, I planted carrots 3/4 weeks ago and they are just starting to germinate. The weather has them all of a dither. :-D No gardening here today, it hasn't stopped raining since we got up. Just popped to a new store called What? Apparently they have stores in Bristol and one other place. A bit like a cross between Dunelm, The range and a pound shop. They have taken over a Focus store. But the world and his wife were in there today, the car park was heaving, I would guess the combination of a new store, a wet day and people not being able to go anywhere yesterday. They were doing well though. Bought Nasturtium seed for 79p, 10 large plant labels for 90p, a seeded coconut half for the birds for 79p, four lots of craft stickers two for £1 so not bad really.

Merlin Report 9 Apr 2012 13:24
